Cold turkey successful??

Question: has anyone quit successfully cold turkey? if so, how?
Answers: Using nicotine substitutes isn't really quitting cold turkey.

It's hard, but it can be done.

Remember, giving up smoking is not just a matter of willpower. Nicotine is highly addictive. Many ex-smokers have tried several times before they quit for good. Learn from your past attempts and don’t give up.

If you want to quit, consider buying a nicotine patch or nicotine gum, available at many drugstores. Studies have shown that using nicotine replacement treatments combined with antidepressant medications can double your chances of quitting successfully and may help prevent or delay weight gain.

Ask your doctor for help in quitting. Some prescription medicines can help with withdrawal symptoms and help you quit.

Avoid drinking alcohol, coffee and other beverages you associate with smoking.

Ask family and friends to help you quit by encouraging your efforts and by not smoking around you.

Learn how to handle stress and what to do in situations where you have the urge to smoke. Contact the Smoking Quitline of the National Cancer Institute at 1-877-44U-QUIT for free information on how to stop smoking, or ask your doctor or employer for help in finding a smoking cessation program.

No matter how old you are, it is never too late to improve your health by kicking the tobacco habit.
If you mean cirgarettes then yes. My husband, mother, father and my uncle all quit cold turkey. My husband used gum, hard candy and suckers in place of cigarettes and my parents just plain quit and used nothing. I am not sure what my uncle did when he quit.
I gave up smoking cold turkey almost 18 years ago.

I just decided that it was time to move on with my life
I quit smoking cold turkey in 1992, no relapse since.
I did it by setting a date. When that day came, I was prepared and psyched up. My grand kids were on me all the time, so I had that as a motivation. Plus,I refused to give the goviment any more tax money.
I used to drank gallons and gallons of Diet Coke, Diet Pepsi - anything diet. One day when I woke up with severe dizzy spells, something told me it was all that diet junk I was drinking. Diet drinks contain all kinds of useless chemicals that are not good for us. I quit drinking that stuff in June of 1998 and have not had any since and don't miss it one bit. You just have to make up your mind to do something and stick with it.
I lived in a foriegn country where i smoked, and so when I was coming back to the united states I decided I wanted a fresh start. I threw my cigarettes away on my way to the airport and I've never had a problem with it. I know most people have a much harder time, but for me it wasn't too hard.
