Honey and depression??
Question: I suffer from depression. Sometimes, I have a cup of tea with a spoonful of honey in it. After drinking it, I feel soothed, calm, clear-headed.
This doesn't happen if I drink tea without honey, so I'm starting to believe that honey may have a positive effect on depression, especially when the depression is mild, or at the beginning of a severe depressive episode. The effects are less noticeable when the depression is already in full-swing.
I find that the effects last around 2-4 four hours. I'm not really 'cheered up' or especially happy, but I'm no longer miserable, desperate. I feel like the problems in my life are easier to manage.
Has anybody else experienced this?
Is there any research or scientific reason why this should happen?
Or am I just being weird?
Answers: no u r not weird, you are very wise...I have felt this also but didn;t give it much attention...
there is research that honey is a very good all round healer, it is considered a heavenly food...I haven't heard about it as an aid for depression & I am quite sure I came across a book about the importance & healing properties of honey in one of Rudolf Steiner's books.
I am just guessing but I think the sugar is helping to raise your blood sugar & you are right it does give one a warm fuzzy feeling & if you continue to take it everyday you'll also benefit from its long term effects. Diet plays a big role on our health...eg I was told my a very good alternative health therapist that sugar is makes one irritable & tired & is very bad for health. I did an experiment where I had very little sugar (from fruits like grapes & pineapple etc) & avoided sugar for about 2 weeks..I then had lots of chocolate, cakes etc & I immidately felt irritable, touchy etc & so I realized that it does have a very negative effect on health...
thank you for sharing that with us,I will now remember to have honey everyday!
PS. B vitaimns are very good for depression also & you could take a good multi-vitamin or a B complex also. I also did a placebo test on this & it does make a difference.
Very interesting. I also suffer from depression and I might try your honey and tea. Good luck.
if it works for you that is great but it doesnt mean it will work for everyone however i will try it next time i feel low .
Thanks in advance
I haven't, but i think i'll be giving it a go to see if it works.
Wonder if it will help with stress aswell!
honey will release sugar inot your blood stream so that could be giving youa small lift; also the ritual of making the tea might be quite claming. however, i have found that camomile tea with honey in it always seems to sooth me so perhaps you are right.
I will give it a try and get back to you! What kind of tea and honey do you use?
honey is soothing
try Honey & Lemon.
well those bees are doing gods work!
I have heard from a friend that a spoon of honey can have alot of healing factors, such as what your talking about, so why not! Good luck I hope it works for you!
