Have any Ideas of natural ways to heal hypothyroidism??
Answers: There are a few extracts which help in better functioning of thyroid.
Kelp, is a sea vegetable which is a prime source of iodine - crucial in preventing thyroid problems. It has been used medicinally for thousands of years, especially in traditional Chinese medicine. Apart from its beneficial effect on thyroid functioning, it is also used as a metabolic stimulant and can be found in many slimming remedies. When using kelp medicinally, always make sure that it is sourced by a reputable and trusted company. Kelp harvested from the beach or near to the coast may be contaminated with industrial waste, sewerage, lead, mercury or other toxins. Kelp used in Native Remedies
Avena sativa is derived from the wild oat plant and is a well known restorative and nerve tonic, used to treat depression, low libido and lack of energy, as well as hypothyroidism. More recently it has also been shown to be effective in reducing high cholesterol levels.
Coleus forskohlii is a well respected and often difficult to obtain Ayurvedic (Indian) remedy, traditionally used to treat high blood pressure. It also acts to stimulate the thyroid to release thyroid hormones and is therefore beneficial in the treatment of hypothyroidism.
Some foods, including cabbage, peaches, radishes, soybeans, peanuts, and spinach, can interfere with the production of thyroid hormones. Anyone with hypothyroidism may want to avoid these foods.
The Shoulder Stand yoga position (at least once daily for 20 minutes) is believed to improve thyroid function.
Hypothyroidism is conventionally treated by administering a daily dose of synthetic thyroid hormones (e.g. Levothyroxine). This can often restore healthy thyroid functioning very effectively.
One of the main problems with synthetic thyroid hormones is that they may result in too much thyroid hormone in the body, resulting in hyperthyroidism.
Another problem is that some people do not have sufficient amounts of an enzyme needed to convert T4 into T3 (its active form).
Some doctors therefore prefer to use a form of natural thyroid hormone extracted from cows, which contains both T4 and T3 thyroid hormones. There has been some concern, however, that this form of natural thyroid hormone may be contaminated by harmful viruses.
Naturopaths have long recognized that there are very effective herbs that can help to promote healthy thyroid functioning and restore thyroid health.
In conjunction with experts in the field, Native Remedies has developed Thyroid Assist, a 100% herbal remedy to assist in the treatment of hypothyroidism and Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. Thyroid Assist along with a healthy diet and lifestyle, can help to promote thyroid health and bring relief from many of the symptoms of hypothyroidism.

It has tripled my energy level. Take a TBSP once or twice a day depending on your energy needs. I take it once a day and that does me just fine. It is supposed to help your metabolism but I don't know how that would affect the thyroid gland. My mother has had it all her life and is really into holistic and homeopathic medicince and she is still on synthroid.

Yes, the use of Armour thyroid works well. I have been on synthetic meds and now on Armour (a natural med) and I feel so much better on Armour. Armour is FDA approved so there's no risk of getting a virus from it as someone else state. It comes from pigs, not cows. They could be thinking of glandular thyroid supplements that are not FDA approved and they may be from cows.
Armour is adjusted by the free t4 and free t3, not by TSH. I will put some Armour related links below.
This is a serious medical condition. Some natural approaches are available, but should only be tried under the supervision of a trained naturopath or holistic doctor. Good luck!
Hi...
My ND put me on armour thyroid..but I have been able to decrease the med twice (looking at a third time!!) in the 3 months I have been on it! Below explains WHY:
I take Iodoral (iodine) cause most of us are way low in it...this is actually what allowed me to decrease the hormone mentioned above. I can buy if for HALF the price at this site than what my doc charges... plus it helps a charity...please read all about it first. There are a few other supps you will need to take to help everything work right...Vit. C, selenium..etc...and it also dissolves/prevents breast cancer and ovarian cysts. Yes, there are studies for those who question this. And people who hae plenty of iodine don't sunburn!!http://www.breastcancerchoices.org/iodin...
And to read/learn about taking iodine... go here: They help everyone and you can learn about all the other benefits of iodine....http://curezone.com/forums/f.asp?f=815
I also have stopped cooking with canola oil and using margarine because they MESS with our hormones!! I have replaced with olive oil and virgin coconut oil....read here how it's helped people with their thyroid issues. http://www.coconutdiet.com/thyroid_healt...
GOOD LUCK!!! You can do it!! :)
