What can I do for a cold sore??

Question: I have a small cold sore in the corner of my mouth and was wondering if there was anything I could do for it.
Sometimes I get them when I'm really stressed out (and it is finals week next week... so that could definately be a factor) :)

Any suggestions?
Answers: use abreva

...

Cold sores generally clear up without treatment. In the meantime, the following steps may provide relief:

* Use creams. Over-the-counter (OTC) creams can provide comfort, but don't expect them to speed healing.
* Take an OTC pain reliever. These include aspirin, acetaminophen (Tylenol, others) and ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, others). But don't give aspirin to children. Aspirin may trigger a rare but potentially fatal disorder known as Reye's syndrome.
* Use cold or heat. Try applying ice or warm compresses to the blisters to ease the pain.
* Let it heal. Avoid squeezing, pinching or picking at any blister.
Get some abrevea
In addition to using abreva, take lots of Lysine! These are not just stress related, but happen when you have too much chocolate or nuts - both of which increase the arginine levels in your body. Lysine offsets the arginine.
There is some stuff that I use on my cold sores and it helps the healing and the pain a lot. It comes in a small can that's yellow and white. It's called Carmex. You can pick it up at your local drug store.
Carmex helps me.
Pick up some abreva-
Relax & don't stress-- everything always works out.
u can use a medisine called zovirax is more afective when u use it at the begining when u feel the first itch
Cover your cold sore with petroleum jelly. Take vitamin B complex and zinc .. that helps to boost your immune system.

Get enough rest.
ice the crap out that sucker, numbing it takes the heat out of it which keeps it from growing. abreva doesn't work for me. use this cream called Super L-lysine, you can get it at a all natural food store like Wild Oats Market. you could also take L-lysine in pill form everyday. you can get it in the vitamin section at any grocery store. its just a supplement, not medicine. good luck!
Watermelon Frost is available from your local herbalist or Chinese Health Food store. Just one dose of power will clear up a cold sore overnight. It also works on other sores in the mouth and for burns on the body. It costs approximately $3 and is available without a prescription. I always keep some in my medicine cabinet.

Dr Whitaker's Guide to Natural Healing recommends a salve from Enzymatic Therapy called Herpilyn, which contains lemon balm and is widely used in Europe. Lysine 500 mg three times daily on an empty stomach may help too; it inhibits herpes virus. Finally, get on a good vitamin supplement to build your immunity. Dr Whitaker's excellent book has some great suggestions.
