Chinese herbs - do they have to be taken in tea form or can I put them in capsules??
Question: I've been prescribed a course of Chinese herbs, and was directed to drink them as a tea. However, I can't stomach them as they taste horrendous.
If I put them in gelatin capsules, will I get the same effect, or is it preferential to drink them as a tea?
Thanks.
Answers: Sorry, but they are meant to be drunk as a tea. The herbs have to be taken in liquid form so that the active ingredients have a chance of absorbing into you body more effectively. Taking it in dry form dramtically reduces its effect.
sometimes the doctor can recomend his own capsula instead of the tea. Once i told them i didn't want to make/drink the tea , they prescribed capsulas and it was as good.
chinese herbs can be made into both tea and capsules... but I think tea is better because water is better absorbed by our body. So it should be more effective.
Put them in capsules.
Chinese herbs have been used for thousands of years in liquid and tablet form and are effective both ways.
Yes, they can taste nasty which will lead to not finishing the cup, spitting some out, and if you have to prepare them, it may not be done so exactly right.
By consuming them in tablet form, or putting them into capsules you know you are taking it all in, getting the right dosage, and don't need to chase it down with a beer! :)
I had TCM and was prescribed bags of chinese herbs each week which i had to boil everyday for about 4 months. They were disgusting!!! I had to boil the herbs, drain them into a jug and drink 3 cups a day. The mixture was black and thick and smelled awwwful.! Made me wretch but i persevered until i decided it was making me so miserable to drink it. Also very expensive stuff.
Guess you have to decide if it's worth taking them. I used to eat something very sweet or very strong tasting directly after drinking the herbs to help get rid of the aftertaste.
Good luck x
