Has anyone ever heard of or used EAR CANDLES??
Question: I just purchased ear candles from a local pharmacy and you would not believe the amount of earwax that is sucked up out of your ears with these incredible invention. I would like to know how others have responded to these.
Answers: DO NOT USE EAR CANDLES!!!! Nothing could be more harmful short of sticking a knitting needle down your ear. A rule of thumb is not to stick anything smaller than your elbow in your ear. Your ear drum is a thin, delicate membrane than can be easily damaged. I tested hearing for awhile and know how nasty and annoying waxy build-up can be but I have also seen the scar tissue created by people using ear candles instead of going to a doctor or using safer treatments that do not require the use of STICKING FIRE DOWN YOUR EARS!!

This is a procedure that is also done in a lot of spas/salons.
My sister uses them and swears by them. I asked my doctor and he said I didn't need them but that they were safe to use.
My brother used them and will SWEAR by them. He's not particularly out there in terms of natural / alternative cures, but he tried them and said they worked GREAT and they made his ears and head feel better, and he can actually hear better! Isn't that cute? I'd recommend them based on his experience, even though I still have to try them myself. Have fun. :-)

My sisters have used them. They work good. I didn't use them at the time they were trying them because I had just been diagnosed with an inner ear disease (Meniere's) and was afraid they would stir up the dizzy symptoms that come with that disease (horrible disease symptoms!!!). I haven't really thought about it since then. I might would try them now since I don't have the symptoms of the disease anymore.
ok lets get this straight first, i am not an alternative medicine basher as i am a naturopath. However ear candels are a load of crap! try some experiments burn some in a sealed container, wow! u will have ear wax, burn one in your hand, wow! it has ear wax too, try 10 even 20 in your ear one after the other, i bet you still get ear wax comming out right? get an anatomy and physiology book and look up the small size of the ear now tell me all that ear wax came out of that tiny space after 20 candels...i call bullshit!
I used them for awhile and realized what appeared to be ear wax, was actually the melting wax on the ear candle.
There are folks with a lot of ear wax, but better ways to remove it. My 82 year old mother had a golf ball size ear wax removed from her ears- I was there to witness this. This was the result of using Q-tips for years. The Q-tip pushed the wax deeper into the canal.
There are peroxide based ear cleaners available that are safer.

My grandmother used to make them with cheesecloth and wax. We all liked it when she used them to clean out our ears. I didn't know you could buy them. Thanks!!
Ear candles are a hoax for gullible people. They do NOT remove ANY ear wax. Any wax you see after burning came from the candle, NOT from the ear.

In one word DON T. These things can burn you and they only remove liquified wax.....not the hard stuff that you really need removed. These things should go the way of Dr. Fitzke's snake oil!
Use some carbamide peroxide and warm water.
