Whats better than anti depressants??
Question: im low and very depressed and have been for months and i know that if i go to my docs he will suggest anti depressants, but i dont want 2 go to the docs. just wondering whether there is a herbal tablet that works the same, and i mean work.
Answers: First you must identify if it is an outside source causing the depression such as debt, relationship, job, children, etc. Then you must except it for what it is and work around a solution. It also may be a chemical misbalance in your body beyond your control. In that case you will need a doctor! Nothing to be ashamed of, just feel blessed you live in a time when we have modern medicine! Good Luck, Life is hard sometimes! You should always talk your problems out with a friend or something, it helps!
Exercise is a good antidote to depression. Was fairly down last year, whenever I went for a run everything just seemed to lighten up.
I went to the doctors a few months ago with anxiety and mild depression, I was prescribed anti depressants but started seeing a councillor instead, it helps, but I have realised the only way to deal with things is to grab the bull by the horns and start challenging myself.
I have social anxiety, so avoidant behaviour means I make my situation worse as I avoid people and social situations, I have decided to deal with my problems I must admit to myself I have a problem and then try to make progressive steps.
I was told by someone that omega three can improve your state of mind and concentration and st johns wort helps too.
you don't need to take any tablets - its always good to talk.
see a councilor, your doc will refer you.
depression could stem from something that happened years ago.
Talk about it.
No tablets. Grow vegetables, help old ladies across the road, join a tennis club- in other words, get a perspective and don't dwell on yourself. Works in 6 weeks. Stay with it.
St John's Wort is a herbal depression remedy.
being happy?
whiskey
better than anti depressants is exercise, if you go out and take a job for at least 30 mins a day you will definitely feel more energized then when you didn't do anything.
Lithium.
St Johns Wort is good and is available over the counter. It's an herbal antidepressant and does not have side effects like most of the antidepressants that come in prescription form. Do be sure to read and follow the package label before taking these. Good luck. I hope this helps
plenty sex, that is good for depression. Releases the feel good hormone. If you don't have a partner just go for a jog round the block. No comparison, i know which one i prefer. LOL
Who diagnosed your depression? Actually, doctors do treat depression in other ways than just tablets all the time.
I find that affirmations work a treat for depression. I have the capacity to take in the fullness of life, I lovingly live my life to the full. Depression is connected to the lungs, so if you have a problem there already this will help to heal this also.
Believe it or not, you should see your doc for a physical exam. There are medical conditions that have depression as a symptem. Under active thyroid for one. Anemia for another. He or she cannot make you take pills , but can help rule out or confirm causes for your depression. If you are other wise fit, the recommendations for exercise, better nutrition, and possibly couseling will be encouraged.
Certain herbs may be helpful, but could also take you in the wrong direction, and taken wrongly, for the wrong thing, can cause problems. St John's Wort , for instance can make your skin and eyes sensitive to the sun. Herbs are real medicine, to match the herb with the condition and not harm the patient takes research. Be careful, see your Doc first.
Take up a hobby like painting water colours' or.
meditate to the creator,
getting enough vitamin D (from food; milk, dairy etc..) or from sunlight and getting plenty of essential fatty acids (nuts, beans, fish, flax seed or omega 3 supplements) have all been proven to help beat depression.
Firstly, really sorry that you are feeling depressed. I really feel for you. If you can face a trip to your gp I'd recommend it as they can help loads, even if you don't want to take anti-d's. I'm going through pnd at the moment and flatly refused anti-d's to begin with. My gp respected my decision and advised other alternatives - for e.g I've been given a prescription for excercise (excercise is well known for helping treat depression) which means that I get swimming, gym and fitness classes at a reduced cost. Was also given a list of organisations including websites that can help. Could see a homeopath if you can afford it - again doc might be able to recommend one - there is one based at our surgery. Cognitive behavioural theraphy is highly effective treatment - your doc might be able to arrange this for you but not available in some areas. Not in mine but my gp gave me this web address to do it online: moodgym.anu.edu.au
Mind provide good information here: http://www.mind.org.uk/Information/Bookl...
Your doc will probably suggest counselling too if you want it - if that isn't available on nhs in your then there maybe voluntary organisations (such as mind).
Aside from all this, personally I've found the support of my gp brilliant as I see her regularly and she really understands.
Hope that helps a bit and I wish you well asap. Take care :)
i have been battling depression for a while now, and i see a doctor who specializes in hollistic medicine, she recomended a vitamin called DHEA, which worked for me in combination with fish oil tablets three times a day each. mix the vitamins with a little light aerobic excersize and i had my answer. everyone is different as most will tell you, but this is what worked for me, and i have tried every perscription and herbal remedy out there. give it a shot but first run it by your doctor, if you dont want to go for an appointment just give their office a call and ask to speak to your nurse or doctor, and let them know what your thinking of trying that way you can be safe and secure about it and they can give you some input on the subject. One last thing that really helped me too is to think only positive thoughts, it takes some work but with practice it will help, anytime a negative thought enters your mind just let it go don't even dwell on it for a second, just replace it with something positive or fun like dreaming about what you would do if you won the lottery or something. that also helps me , its called changing your thought process. any way i gotta stop my fingers hurt now :) good luck.
There is no quick fix for this I am sorry to say.
Cut out junk food, eat more fruit and veggies, lots more! Become veggie and/or only eat lean meat once a week.
Drink more water than you think you can, you will pee like a good 'un for a week but it will stablise and flush out the poisons in you. Avoid fizzy drinks, tea and coffee, they contribute to depression. Don't drink booze, it is also a depressant. Drink only water. and get some exercise.
Last but not least, smile! Force yourself to do this, it will hurt you lots emotionally at first doing this but it is a very easy way of getting the happy endorphins around your system. I hope this helps, it does me.
nothing beats a healthy life style, but when we're depressed (as in a vicsious circle), things go wrong & that also brings on a depression...good friends, laughing at oneself & life, exercise, healthy simple food, going to bed & waking up etc...
But I've heard that melatonin is very good, u can buy it on Ebay (it has been banned in UK becos it was treating depression & the profits of pharmecutical companies was more important than people's health & thus the ban..)!
also, Dr Vogel's Hypericum Complex is supposed 2 b good, health shops sell them & u can ask them for more info, it's more for mild depression.
I am like you and don't like to take medication for depression so I take 2 products that work for me and that is Stress Relief Complex and B-complex they work for me and they are completely natural.
a big Fat joint
Hypnotherapy is by all means the alternative to anti depressants and it is proven that you wont need medication.Have a look on the website below for further info. Good Luck and please get some help even if its not hypnotherapy
I'd recommend seeing a nutritional therapist who has experience in dealing with depression. Others above have made helpful suggestions about products you can take. However, you may be deficient in any number of nutrients and would get a speedier recovery by having a trained professional assess the correct dosage you need and whether there's anything stopping you from absorbing them correctly. This doesn't need to take a horrendous amount of time. Hopefully a few sessions will be enough to help significantly.
If you're interested in working on emotional and mindset issues underlying your depression, I'd recommend trying Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) with an advanced therapist to release any distress you're under. A good EFT therapist will be proactive in making the work efficient and teach you how to do a basic form of the therapy at home for yourself. It's not unusual to lastingly resolve depression in 1-6 sessions. Best wishes
First rule of alternative medicine: first see a doctor, than an alternative one. Sometimes stomachache is a tumor, which will not be recognised by alternative medicine.... you get the picture! Why don't you see a homeopathist as well? These have a decent medical background, give coaching as well and can treat you with natural elements.
Besides this, there are some other ways to keep your head up high:
- start a diary. Every day you need to write down three things that were good, nice, wonderful or you enjoyed
- walk every day at least half an hour. you get some sunshine, clear your head, fresh air...
- ask your friends and family for help. talk to them. why are you depressed? when did this start?
good luck to you! hope you will see the sun again soon!

the doctor recommendation is what is needed in many oppinions if required if can be affordable to you. In most minds it is better for you to find balance than in situations of deficiency.
st johns worts;gotu kola;lavender(elf leaf);mothers wort;oat straw as these are just a few if taken any of these follow directions and alsogive it about 1 week to notice the difference
suck it up. no such thing as depression.
