Can one safely give oneself an enema or hydrocolonic at home??

Question: Also, what kinds of solutions are safe and effective for cleansing and where can one purchase the equipment inexpensively?
Answers: safely yes. cleanly NO

Seriously, they sell them at the grocery store, or pharmacy.
any grocery store and yes it is totally safe these days
Do it your self enema bottled solution is available al most drug stores like sav-on, rite-aid, etc.
Out of my area of expertise, but I think I can safely say that you'll want to avoid using a cell phone for the job.
High colonic enemas are most safely administered by health professionals familiar and trained to give them. See Digestive Wellness by Elizabeth Lipski for info on how to deal with GI Tract problems.
Large volume enemas have potential to injure the colon if not given properly.
If your that constipated you can try other things first, I know you can buy supositories at the store, or laxatives, fiber, drinking a lot of water, and excercise.
Go to the pharmacy and pick one up.. They are not that expensive and they work. They are easy to do on yourself and you will have great results. I had 2 children by C-section and you need to use an enema to feel normal. With my 2nd child I chose not to have one at the hospital and did I ever regret it. So I did it myself with a store bought and worked wonderfully.
Depending on what you are looking for, you can buy pre-packaged enemas that are a phospo-soda mixture, in pre-measured bottles for self administration. They are about 8 ounces and they are very effective for cleaning out the lower intestins if you are constipated.

Next step is the hot water bottle/syringe combination. Usually a red or white rubber bag that holds approximately 2 quarts of water or other solution. It has a six foot piece of tubing and two nozzels, one for douching and the other for enemas.

You fill the bag with warm water (use about 2 teaspoons of salt to maintain electrolyte balance in your body). Hang the bag about 18 inches above the entry point, insert the nozzle in your rectum and release the clamp on the hose and let the water flow into you. The more you can take and hold the deep the water goes and the more you flush from your system.

Another step up is a colonic. Most are given by professionals trained to do it but they can be expensive if done on a regular basis and medical insurance usually doesn't pay for it.

You can do this at home with the proper equipment, usually consisting of a colema board that you lay across a chair and the commode. It includes a 5 gallon bucket for holding the solution, along with a tube and fixed nozzle (so you don't have to try to hold it in).

You fill the bucket with the solution, put the board in position, hook the nozzle and tube to the board. Lay on the board and slide down so the nozzle inserts itself into your rectum. Lay back and relax and release the clamp. You let the solution flow in and when you are full you release it and the mess flows into the commode for you, you continue to let the solution flow and release until the bucket is empty. The idea is to take as much solution as you can hold before releasing then take more and more each time, cleaning you deeper and deeper each time.

This equipment may be difficult to store plus it isn't cheap, but in comparison to a professional doing it is considerably cheaper in the long run.

I hope I've helped. All these can be done safely at home as long as you are careful and don't abuse the process.

Good luck.
1. There's a lot of ignorance and misinformation out there. Your colon does NOT need cleansing. It is a self-cleaning organ.

2. If you are constipated, enemas will become habit-forming and soon your colon will lose the ability to empty itself. Eat healthy, get plenty of fiber from cereals, fruits and veggies and the problem will disappear.

Use common sense!
