Where can I buy Ipecac? Is it behind the pharmacy counter or on the shelves??
Question: I want to get it at Walgreens or CVS but do i need to ask for it??
Answers: No, its on the shelves. Usually in the baby isle. Try Eckerds.
You will have to ask for it in most places. Most pharmacies have taken it off the shelves and moved it behind the counter because some people are abusing it for diet reasons.
You can it at Walgreens without a prescription but it is behind the counter. You need to be an adult to buy it. It is not available over the counter anymore.
behind the pharmacy counter and it should only be used when a suspected toxin has been ingested and even then you should call poison control first because there is always the chance that the toxin is caustic and will burn your throat coming back up. It could cause even more damage. Ipecac is serious business.
Simply go to the pharmacy counter and ask.I know that you use to be able to buy it.You can even call them.Don't use it for anything stupid please like bulemia.
Ipecac can be found behind the counter but should be used only on medical advice. Not only do you need to know what type of poison was ingested since vomiting a caustic chemical can cause much damage but it is now generally considered ineffective. While it does induce vomiting it doesn't clear the stomach well enough to eliminate a poison. A better treatment is activated charcoal which is available in the emergency room or on an ambulance. I might add that it is no longer used in either of those locations and at this time a lot of consideration is being given to removing it from the market altogether. An additional thought for consideration is that it is actually made from arsenic, a poison in itself.
