Answers: I have braces-they will be three years old on the 18th and I will be getting them off before September.I think I know basically everything that can help you =D
All gum is going to attach to your brackets at some point-just play with it with your tongue until it gets loose.Don't get hard bubble gum-that's definitely going to break something.
Don't eat anything hard after you get your braces on for the first time.Your teeth will be numb and it will be difficult for you to eat.I had trouble eating an untoasted peanut butter and jelly sandwich.Perhaps this was because I have very sensitive teeth.Don't bite into an apple or a carrot.I once bit into a carrot and it hurt a bit-my bracket got twisted up.Every now and then the metal thing surrounding my teeth will get loose or a wire will get bent-but that hasn't happened to me for the past year and a half. You'll get used to braces.I was so scared that I would break them when I first got them.Personally, I think dentists overreact.I've never had problems eating an apple. They say to avoid pretzels and gum-heck, I eat them all the time and my braces are in mint condition.
Getting your braces on doesn't hurt AT ALL.It's just a bit uncomfortable because they have this plastic thing keeping your mouth wide open. When they take that off it is SUCH a relief!Usually after you get them they will put on some video about braces that shows you what to eat and what not to eat.Just follow that for the first few days, but be careful.Gum can really screw up your braces, as well as hard candy. If you have any questions on what to eat and what not to eat, feel free to email me (lissa1025@yahoo.com) or talk to your orthodontist.
I wish you the best of luck and a beautiful smile!
Do not eat apples unless you cut them up and take off the skin. If you eat them the usual way, you will end up with apple skin in your teeth all day and it feels awful.
I did chew gum from time to time, just don't chew a huge piece. If it does get stuck in your braces, you can get it out but it would be kind of embarassing if you were out somewhere and this happened.
They will hurt every time they get tightened but when they come off, your teeth will look great!
I am really glad I was fortunate enough to have them, even though they were not fun at the time!
I had braces a couple years ago and they are VERY painful I lost 5 pounds in 4 days!! When you first get them on it feels like someone is literally pulling your teeth all the time. Everything hurts when you eat, even soup. Your lips will feel blown up. Make sure you have advil for the headaches you'll get. After a couple days it calms down and you get used to it. As for eating I ate everything you just have to becarful how you eat it. and always carry floss, toothpaste, toothbrush and listerine. After you eat you will always get stuff in them. as for apples, i never ate them so i dont know. Gum yes i did, but sometimes it would get stuck on the wire just take it off. When you go for your adjustments it'll hurt the first couple times and after it'll feel like its just soar. So enjoy and always stick to your appoinments cause if not your stuck with em longer but they do pay off in the end.
well it all depends. Your ortho will tell you what u can and can't eat (Heck mine gave me a list of things NOT to eat!) Ha I took one look and threw it away on the way out though whoops! lol so I would reccomend asking him/her and when they tell u not to eat something don't (I mean u can but they will get kinda mad at you...) at least mine does kinda (in a joking sorta way) so he/she will probably tell you and I would take their advice! Good luck! And do what your told so u don't have to have them for like 3 years like I did! (and still do!) good luck!
hey! just a point its not actually chewing the lollies that hurt your braces yes they might pop off but the actual reason is because their full of sugar and when bacteria eat the sugar it turns into acid and because you have braces it make it extra hard to get rid of! ive just been to the ortho (yesterday) and have been schedualed for thr 28th of may :-)
bye:D
