High school marching band??
Question: ok so i get my braces off in three weeks and i was wondering can anybody tell me how different it feels to play an instrument without my braces on anymore. ps i play the clarinet and i asked this question in another section for the highschoolpart
Answers: Hey, I play clarinet too and I had braces when I was younger. As the dentist above said, the main difference you'll notice is that the inside of your bottom lip won't hurt as much, because it won't have the brackets pushed against it when you play.
Otherwise, you really won't notice much difference at all - I used to prefer playing after I'd had my braces off and had my retainers, because it meant my teeth weren't biting directly against my bottom lip, which always hurt a LOT after a long rehearsal!
Clarinet probably won't be all that different. The mouthpiece goes behind your teeth instead of pressing against them so much. You will be happy not to have those brackets on the lower teeth cutting into your lip any more, but you will not really have to adjust your playing techinque much at all.
It should feel better to play, you may have to adjust some but not much. I had to adjust to play the alto saxophone my first year playing it and have braces put on.
Hope this helps.
