I have recently had my lower front tooth removed, what should I do??
Question: That was on Wednesday and I am still in agony, I have been taking 2x 200mg ibuprofen every 4 hours. How long will this last? I have a hole in my gum where the tooth has been removed
Answers: I guess the pain will start to subside within two to three days, so it should start to be less painful now. Try and gargle or swill a bit of warm salt water (one teaspoon of table salt to a glass).around your mouth to rinse your mouth especially when you can start to eat again. Not vigorously though because this disturbs the blood clots that are part of the healing process.
If you are still in pain then i suggest you phone the dentist/doc on monday or go to the chemist to get some painkillers that are a bit stronger so they help more. I thought ibruprofen was an anti-inflamitory drug?. I would ask you doc if you can take some paracetomal too along side it if the one you have been prescribed doesn't already contain it as a double act.
Good luck x
keep it clean with a warm salty mouthwash will help it heal.
I would have thought the pain would have subsided by now. Hopefully it's not infected. Still, let your dentist know asap. The hole will take time to close over. Meanwhile, you should be rinsing with warm water and salt.
Get well soon.
There is still something wrong, the pain should have gone by the next morning. go back to ur dentist who may take an x-ray if he cannot see anything. How painfull is it? is it just an normal pain after surgery or is it unbearable and or getting worse. Chances are u may have a gum infection, maybe the root wants to come out, if the pain gets so unbearable it could be what happened to me, and that was a cyst on the end of my root that was supposed to have been removed.
Ur dentist may take the nerve out for some reason, if he does the pain should go.
Good luck.
First of all, do NOT smoke, as any smoking can lead to a dry socket and that is excrutiatingly painful and has a drawn out recovery scenario. It is essential that the blood clot and protect the socket's recovery. The gum will heal quick, assuming you are treating it well, and there will soon be little pain. Replace the tooth with an implant or a bridge and you will soon be fine. If you choose not to replace the tooth, you'll be fine, but you'll notice it is missing, and your speech may also have difficulty adapting to the missing tooth.

the last tooth i had removed was just acouple weeks ago and it hurt me for about 10 days till the pain finally went away it was a lower back tooth and i could see my jawbone exposed in 2 spots so i'm sure that had something to do with it because before this i have never had one hurt more than a couple days even with my wisdom teeth .
Go back to your dentist, it sounds like a dry socket. You say you have a hole in your gum, it seems that the clot has dislodged and that is when the infection gets in. Until you can see your dentist keep taking the ibuprofen and do at least 3 salt rinses a day. If you go back he will take most of the pain away immediately. Good luck.
