Would it look bad to get my tooth pulled if i needed braces.??
Question: My teeth on the bottom are crowded and one needs to be pulled. would it look bad or does it fill in
Answers: It will fill in, they'll fix it!! That's the whole point of braces. :)
no it'll be fine. i had plenty of teeth pulled. they fill in fine. it looks bad if they are crowded.
I don't believe in extracting teeth unless it is absolutely necessary. They can sometimes shave the teeth equally in order to fit the other one in. I would get a second opinion if I were you - once the tooth is gone it is gone.
Son had 2 up 2 down removed (I was panicked by that procedure) but 3 years later, braces are off, and mouth is very nice. Worked out very good.
Hi:
Please consider getting a 2nd opinion regarding the extraction of your tooth. Not sure if this is the best alternative for you-- sometimes it cannot be avoided to correct the over-crowding of a person's smile--but it is not recommended for other problems it can cause.
Arch expansion is another alternative and orthodontist can do this for you to avoid the extraction of your tooth.
NOW, if the tooth that is recommended to be extracted is a wisdom tooth--- there is little to no problems with doing this, aesthetically nor functionally...
BUT, I am assuming that the tooth they want to extract is in your smile zone (front part of your smile).
If you went with the recommendation of extraction, it would look as if you are missing a tooth in that space BUT with the orthodontic treatment, the gap (space) would fill in-- usually rather quickly--approx. a couple of weeks to a couple of months.
Are you an Invisalign candidate? If so, they can color coat the clear aligner to look as though there is a tooth inside the place where the missing tooth is--even after they have extracted the tooth--- sort of to fake the viewer to believe that there is a tooth in the place of the missing tooth.
Good luck with whatever you decide-- Happy to know you are considering improving your smile by correcting the alignment of your smile.
This will help you with keeping your teeth clean-- easier to keep clean if the teeth are not over-crowded. Of course, your smile will also improve in looks--- short term the gap would fill in after you began your treatment with braces or clear aligners.
Best of luck-- Hey, consider a 2nd opinion. Most ortho offices will provide you an evaluation absolutely free--- and ask for the option of ARCH EXPANSIONS-- a great office that does this is in Cupertino, CA see the link below-- she is one of the few in our area that works hard to do this style of treatment ---and there are many, many benefits to not extracting teeth if you do not need them to be extracted.
Think about it--- The best to you in your ortho care treatment in whichever route you go--extract or not to extract.
Sincerely, Tina
You may want to get a second opinion. I had braces and 4 teeth pulled. After 3 years of braces, the gap from where they pulled my 2 teeth on top, never closed. I was really mad because now food gets stuck in it constantly. Well, I went to another dentist, (after getting braces off) and because I had 1 tooth that stuck out a little bit, she said she would not have recommended the teeth to be pulled because it would have left the gap I have now. Five years later and my teeth have moved because of those 2 gaps. I would suggest to get a few opinions. If it's just crowding, you may not need to pull the teeth. Good luck! ;)
