What are the pros and cons of using waxed or unwaxed dental floss? Which works better? Any suggestions on the??
Question: best brands to use?
Answers: Unwaxed floss will not leave any waxy residue. Waxed floss will slid between teeth easier. You pick!
waxed is easier on the gums and enamel.
i use johnson and johnson alot.
unwaxed is better for teeth that have some gappage between them (space) so the course fibers can grab the materials between the teeth.
floss comes in may widths and styles... it's best to just try a few different types and see which works out better for you and your gums...
mouths differ... i like the waxed fine stuff... after braces.. before it was course unwaxed.. but i always love cinnamon!
Waxed floss goes through the contacts of the teeth much easier than unwaxed.
I used to push Glide because it was good for very tight contacts, it is waxed but it does not remove the debris well. I tried a sample of J & J gentle gum care WOVEN floss and I got hooked, I ordered it and put it in all my patients goody bags. You can see how it cleans, it is good if you have all your own teeth, if you have alot of crowns or inlays because it is woven may shred. Try it you'll love it.
I use waxed, because unwaxed floss tends to shred and leave pieces of floss between my teeth.
In theory, unwaxed floss cleans better, because all of the individual little filaments of floss provide a cleaning surface. These spaces are not there with waxed floss. In practice, studies have shown that there is no clinical difference. Tape is just wide dental floss.
Use whichever one you prefer. I happen to like unwaxed floss, because I don't like the waxy feeling on my fingers, but some people make out better getting waxed floss through tight contacts. I could never use Glide, because my hands are so dry, I can't keep it wound around my fingers. It just slips until I can't keep it tight any more.
I've gotta try some of Lady X's woven floss, though. Sounds interesting.
i've used waxed, unwaxed, and also the dental tape...if your teeth are severly tight together, you can get floss called easy glide ...i think that's the name of it...i got it at walmart for my hubby b/c he can't use any of the other...myself, i prefer the unwaxed but i also use the dental tape...actually, that's what i'm using right now...it's just a wider floss...i just feel like it does a better job for me than regular floss...it's really just personal choice....
