I just came back from the dentist, she extracted one of my molars. She asked me to put ice on it from outside.?

Question: Any idea why? Does ice help the numbness ? Or does it help swelling.... or some other reason...?
Answers: it helps the swelling, swelling causes pain. less swelling=less pain.
she prolly said to put it from the outside so that ur wound doesn't get infected
Putting ice on the outside will keep the swelling down.
It helps swelling and pain.
Ice helps to numb the pain, and reduce swelling. The rush of blood to the area also aids in helping the damage to heal.

Incidentally...do NOT apply the ice directly to the skin. Instead, place it in a towel or face cloth THEN apply it.
Should help with the swelling it will not effect the numbing at all.
