Dental problem??
Question: I noticed a small black mark on my tooth and went for a check up. I was told that I'd need a filling which made sense because I assumed it was a cavity. I went home after the filling a noticed he did it on another tooth which I thought was odd so I phoned them and they said that the tooth was worn down and that's why he gave the filling. He couldn't remember the black mark on the other tooth and said it's nothing to worry about and the other dentist that examined my tooth couldn't have thought it needed attention.
BUT is it normal for grooves of teeth to appear like they have brown or black staining that cannot be removed with a toothbrush? I had my teeth scaled and polished and the black mark is still there! One tooth has a tiny black mark on and two other teeth have brown lines in the groves. To make matters worst they have a tooth on watch and it's not any of these teeth, it looks healthy. I would really appreciate any help and advise anyone can give me. Thank you.
Answers: i would request an xray as decay below the surface will appear on the surface as a small black mark to start with but the decay could be extensive underneath. The surface of the tooth is the last place the decay will appear , decay starts below the surface. Then again it could just be staining. Do you drink a lot of coffee, teas, red wine or eat curries? These foods are very staining although i would expect them to be removed with a thorough scale and polish but not if they are on the surface of molars or premolars as the fissures in these teeth can be deep. I would request an xray and if all is ok then request fissure sealants which will seal the fissures and make the surface appear smooth which will make cleaning easier , hide the staining and stop food getting stuck in the fissures causing decay. Bleaching will make no difference to this staining.
I don't know if you are living in the UK? but if you are then contact the general dental council if you are unhappy with your treatment and they can assess the treatment you have received.
marks on teeth can from diet problems. the only way I know of changing that is to bleach or cap them. If where you I'd talk to anther dentist.
You don't say if it a front tooth and on the front surface, or a back tooth and on the lumpy chewing surface - if the later the grooves get very marked and polishing cant always remove the marks - my molars are very bumpy and have a lot of dark marks.
If your front teeth - then I don't know.
Your question was a bit whats going on but I have a filling in my front tooth, and the groove where it is joined on to my other tooth has a faint stained line down it. I think its prob where your toothbrush cant get to it.
my advice is to either use some whitening strips (which you can buy at walmart) an see if that works or go see another dentist an get a second opion
The black mark could have been decay in recession, a shadow in a groove. As for having a tooth on watch that's fine, all it means is that the dentist has seen a slight abnormality, be it a tiny bit of decay of a hairline crack - it just means in 6months give it a thorough check to make sure the problem hasn't got worse.
you have weak enamal. I would get a second opinion, maybe even check with a dental school to see if they can put in a filling the same color as your tooth, or pull the tooth and give you a crown, but crowns tend to run a little bigger than your own teeth, at least that's been my experience, it all depends on what tooth it is.
first you should give compalint to consumers forum and file a case against dentist then solve your health problem after after getting compensated...
aware of the fact that more chocolates, sweeteners damage your teeth, gorgling is must after consuming these.
all the best!
