Wisdom tooth pain the day after surgery??

Question: I got my teeth out this morning, and i'm fine right now (im non vicodin). one of my teeth hurts a little when i swallow, but thats it. my chin is still numb however, and what i'm worried about is the pain that im going to get after the numbness wears off! when will i be able to tell when the numbness is gone and the pain is at its worst?

also can anybody give me tips to avoid dry socket (besides the usual..no smoking, no strawws)
Answers: It will hurt for a couple of days before the pain starts to subside. Stay hydrated by drinking lots of water and start taking aspirin before the numbness goes away. That should alleviate some of the pain before it gets too bad. For some people, the pain is killer, others don't seem to be that affected by their surgery.
mine hurt for 2 weeks. dont eat any hard foods.stick wit really soft things. and vic. will ur best friend
I had a numb chin in addition to a numb tongue for months with little taste sensation. This was caused by some minor damage to one of the nerves (the tooth had a hard time being removed and was hooked into the jaw bone). Since it's only been a day, I wouldnt be concerned unless it was over a week.
omg... DONT take aspirin... it's thins your blood and could make the bleeding from your teeth worse!
