Are top and bottom braces applied on the same visit??
Question: I have to take my son to get braces on Friday. He told me some kids in his class had two appts.. one to get top braces and another a week or so later to get the bottom done. Is this the norm or do they normally do tops and bottoms on the same visit?
Answers: My son's braces were all put on at the same visit. I guess it depends on the orthodontist. I am surprised that the orthodontist didn't tell you more of what to expect when he discussed getting braces with you.
personally i had both on in one visit but have known some people to get them on in two. I think the main reason for two appointments is the fact that there isnt enough time for the family to stay for both sets to be put on so they schedule another appointment.
I would ask the orthodontist before going in for your next visit because it varies from dentist to dentist as to when each row of braces will be applied.
The first time I had them, both sets were put on at the same time (but it took more visits than it should have to get it done). The second time I had them (my first orthodontist was terrible and removed my braces early), the top row was applied first and the bottom row was applied much later.
The orthodontist may apply each row of braces separately so that the patient only has to deal with the pain for one row at a time (same reasoning behind doing fillings on different visits), but I preferred getting it all done at once. The pain doesn't usually last too long (maybe a day or two), and it's the pain of the tightening and not the actual application of braces to the teeth that affects the braces recipient.
My brother got his top braces on first... and then he got his bottom ones on like three weeks (or so) after...
BRACES = 1 VISIT
My uppers and lowers were put on at the same time. I do often hear of other people that have two appointments though. You might call the ortho and ask- they should be able to tell you. They would have probably told you if he was going to need two appointments. Good luck - get him lots of dental wax and tell him to rinse with saltwater a couple times a day- it'll help with the ouchies of the mouth :)
i had mine put on in the same visit
I got my bottom ones, no top ones, not for a while. They normally do one first, unless the teeth are aligned enough that they can properly fit together with the top teeth injuring the bottom braces, or Visa verse. (spelling?)
I had my top and bottom done once, my friend on the other hand had only her top done. Then got her bottom done later.
