What is the cause of a mouth ulcer? Any suggestions for remedy??
Question: I get them very rarely, and I used to know how to get rid of them. Is it salt water or baking soda or...I don't remember. I haven't had one in years. They always seem to show up in the crease where my lip meets my gums. Quite painful!
Answers: By gargling your mouth with salt water,
the mouth ulcers will heal quickly.
I found the homeremedies at

Probably due to heavy smoking, lack of oral hygiene or unhealthy habits. Please consult a dentist. --Willie
It is a sign of a temporary weakness of your immune system.
You are prone to flu or something, and your body is currently invaded by a weakeneing agent of your immune system. It can also be a temporary worrying psychological factor.
warm water with 20% salt to gargle with is efficient, and also a gel from the pharmacy for daytime protection from pain.
Do you eat lots of chocolate? this can be an activating factor as well.
mainly you just need to stop the pain and let the ulcer heal. some old time remedies include: gargling with buttermilk (this coats the ulcer), and gargling with a 1:1 mix of liquid antacid (like benadryl or claritin) and liquid antacid (like maalox). swish around about a tablespoonful for about 30 seconds, then spit out. do that 4 or 5 times a day. and don't drink or eat anything for about 30 minutes afterwords to let the medicines sink in. hope this helps, tons of other things to try but this is what i see most commonly.
