I just got braces...??

Question: Is it normal for my lips to be a lot more chapped than usual? I have to put on Chap Stick every hour or more.
Answers: Yes it's normal, and a lot is due from us having your mouth stretched open for so long and so wide. Chap stick helps but Vaseline works better. Usually when we place ortho, we keep the lips lubricated with it. But they still get chapped some from the air, suction and stretching. Just keep the lips moist with the Vaseline and you'll be fine in a few days. You will notice throughout your time in ortho that your lips will become more easily chapped, so always keep something on you to use when you go out. Hope I've been of some help. Good luck!
Yep-if you just got them, it might be because of the length of time that you had to sit there with your mouth open and the suctioning that they did to dry your mouth out.

I know when I had braces my lips were constantly chapped. Hang in there.
Yep! I had braces for about a year and a half. Stock up on the chapstick. When you first get them, you have to learn how to talk clearly and you have slightly different lip movements. You've probably noticed an increase of saliva or spit as well. Just keep the chapstick handy and don't worry, it will get better.
don't use chapstick too often. if you do it will worse because your lips will begin to rely on the chapstick for moisture instead of making it themselves
yeah i have them to and watch out cuz in the back of ur moth or on the sides might get cut up from the wieres...it prolly also feels like u cant shut ur mouth all the way that should go a way soon
Yes its completely normal. You probably had your mouth held open for a long time while the braces were being placed, therefore your lips were stretched out. Keep the chap stick handy. Also, for the next couple weeks if your ortho. gave you wax keep it handy too.
