Laughing gas concern??

Question: My dentist wants to use the stuff on me because I pretty much detest having work done on my teeth after 3 years of braces. So I'm worried that the gas will inhibit my ability to grin and bear the procedure and I'll, well, become a bear to deal with. The hygenist chick said it was pretty much the same effect as a couple of beers, well that's all well and good, but I've never had even a drop of alcohol in my life. Should I be concerned about the gas removing my discipline and turning me into angry drunk guy ?
Answers: As an anesthetist, I give nitrous every day. Typically it is not strong enough on its own to be considered a real anesthetic. It does have analgesic or pain killing properties in it, as well as a sedative effect. It can disinhibit people but typically not enough to be a problem.
Gas is wonderful! You'll just mellow out and get happy. Don't worry!
I have an extreme fear of needles and have a tendency to faint if I see them. My dentist has always used gas on me to help me get through it. I have had it done numerous times and have never had any adverse affects, aside from a slight headache later in the day. Everyone reacts differently but I have never known anyone to have lasting effects. Make sure your dentist is using the proper mixture of the gas and oxygen and you will be fine
I loved having it until this last time, for some reason I had a panic attack wich freaked me out. So If you can just deal with the sounds and smells of the dentist wich is what freaks me out the most Id go withought it. As far as it turning you into a mean drunk during the procedure, thats not gonna happen, its like completly mellows you out where you just dont give a damn whats happening. But like I said, I swore by the stuff till last time when I felt like I couldnt breath, and had to get it off my face a major panic attack.
no. it just makes your feel a little more calm. you control how much you take in by breathing through your nose. you r conscience, just a little more relaxed. some people fall asleep because they are so relaxed. it doesn't have lasting effects either. the doctor will put you on straight oxygen for about 5 mins., and you'll be fine. there's really nothing to worry about. tell your dentist your concerns, he/she or staff will be monitoring you.
