Dentistry Protocol? Surgery instructions given over the phone??

Question: My dentist sent me to a Perio for crown lengthening The Perio faxed her questions. She phoned the Perio with the instructions for the surgery. Is it typical for a dentist to give surgery instructions over the phone? Thank you for your help!
Answers: Nothing wrong with it, they all talk to each other constantly. My boss goes out to lunch and discusses cases with other professionals, its actually good that they have good communication, nothing wrong...
I don't know enough about dental surgery to know if the convo was typical. But I know my dentist gave a report to my oral surgeon, who performed the work he requested. It's possible the surgeon had questions on surrounding teeth or follow up treatment and wanted to be clear. I've heard my surgeon's office on the phone with what I assume to be dental offices talking in great length while I was in the waiting room (not about me-- although they could have been)
unless she used your name in the fax, she did not do anything wrong. You want your dentist to communicate with a specialist, it is a good practice, this way both of them on a same page, and you as a patient win.
