Tooth hurts bad??

Question: I got a big filling in my tooth today and it really hurts. I asked earlier when it would stop hurting and someone said it might need a root canal or something else done if it's a baby tooth (but I don't know if it is or not)......what's a root canal? And does it hurt like when I got the filling? It was sore. I just want my tooth to stop hurting :o(
Answers: You poor thing! If you have a filling and it's very big it is probably quite close to your nerve. The dentist will put some paste under the filling if it's deep which causes the nerve to shrink away from the filling and leaving the tooth not so painful. If it won't settle down withing a few days you might need a root canal treatment if it is an adult tooth. It's probably a baby tooth though as the one 2 behind the pointy one normally falls out around age 11-12. It's unlikely the adult tooth that takes it's place would be so decayed so soon after it coming through. Good news is if it is a baby tooth it'll fall out by itself pretty soon so you may not have to have it taken out. Take some childrens paracaetamol in the meantime.
try advil...sorry for your pain!
try vodka... always works for me :)
There are a number of reasons your tooth could be hurting. Consult your dentist for the best possible answer to your question- your dentist can also recommend a pain reliever that won't interact with any anethesia you may have had. Good luck! :)
This sounds like a really serious problem go and have it seen to at the dentist thank you
bite a damp flannel with warm water in it
u should go back to the dentist if it still hurts, i had the same thing happen to me. The dentist just filed down the filling and it stopped hurting
Aww sweetheart, I'm sorry your tooth still hurts. I haven't had a root canal before, but it shouldn't hurt. They should give you enough medicine to make it numb so that you can't feel anything. If you do feel anything let the dentist know and he can stop and give you more medicine. I hope your tooth feels better soon.
If it still hurts, it's Time to tell your mom, go back, It should not be hurting that bad. I hope you don't wait until it gets infected.
a root canal is the cutting out of an infected root (nerve), basically killing your tooth. It hurts a h.ell of a lot more than getting a filling and you don't want to get one. So put some clover oil on your tooth for now to numb the pain, and brush brush brush to avoid future tooth decay :-)
I have found that often after a filling, the area around my tooth and where the dentist has been working are sore...In general, this goes away by the following day.

Unless you're under 12, it's not likely to be a baby tooth. Also, since these are temporary, it's not very common for dentists to go thru the trouble of filling them. If, for some reason, it is a baby tooth, this is an easy problem to solve, since the dentist can just take it out, and wait for the adult tooth to grow in.

A root canal involves drilling into the tooth to remove all of the tissue that allows it to feel pain. I have had a couple of these, and I have not had them cause any more pain than a filling. Also, because of the fact that the dentist takes away all of the feeling, it is not painful afterward, except for the soreness from the procedure, as noted in my first paragraph.

If it has been more than a day or two since you had the filling and it still hurts, I would call the dentist...It's possible that something needs to be fixed.
What did your dentist say? Call and tell them that you are in a lot of pain.

I don't think it should hurt all that much, maybe a bit sore, but even that should go away in like, a day.

A root canal basically kills the tooth, they remove the nerves and put a crown over it. Try to avoid that!
Very often, if the filling is big, it may be sensitive for a day or so.
Try not to eat anything too hot or too cold.
A Root Canal is a very deep filling where they essentially take out the soft inside nerve and all. (it sounds worse than it really is) Afterwards, with no nerve there is no pain, but it can be sore around where the dentist worked.
I hope your tooth feels better :)
You have to go back to the dentist and explain the continuing pain. It could be one of many problems.
I have been a manager of a Dentist office over 5 yrs. Here are the first possiblities you might want to get checked out. FIRST~ Since your filling was done if you have not been back to your dental office to get it checked do so. The first possibility is When they did the filling your bite might be high. Meaning when they filled it in it is hitting before any of your other teeth so it takes the impact of all the teeth. Another words have them adjust your bite and take an Xray. That will determine if there is any infection going on in that tooth. I recently had my dentist replace a filling as well for me and my joke was I could park an SUV in it. Between the adjustments and due to it being so big it needs time to settle down. Now If they take the xray it should determine a Root canal or not. Normally 90% of the time they can determine it with an xray. So relax for now it does not mean ROOTCANAL YET. Just have it checked. Root Canals are really not that bad some pain involved but no reason to worry. All a Root Cananl is Is the removal of the nerve chamber Some doctors do it in one step some do it in 3-steps as we do to reduce the pain effect. 1 Step vs. 3 Step- Your in your out its over Its done in one hit. 3-Step is a gradual opening and removal of the nerve chamber let it settle down come back in a couple of weeks little further let it settle down then the final step. And normally once you have a Root Canal you are to get a Crown on it as well. If its a Baby tooth discuss estracting it. If possible. GOOD LUCK & DO NOT WORRY!
try cinnamon oil or cloves
