I just got braces and food getting stuck all the time. Any tips on how to eat without getting food stuck??

Question: I know braces questions are probably really common and annoying but I'm not asking what type of foods I'm allowed to eat. What kind of foods won't get stuck in there? I don't have time to clean out my braces after each lunch period and I don't want food stuck in my teeth. Does anyone know what i can do about school snacks?
Answers: I know it sucks, but it's just comes as part of the package of having braces.

Try 2 stay away from VERY soft food bc it means u can chew it up in2 a million pieces and those million pieces WILL get stuck in ur braces RIGHT IN UR FRONT TEETH (trust me, I know from experience). Also these million pieces r so soft that they'll stick 2 the inside of the crevices btween ur teeth and around ur brackets, which of course r visible 2 others.

Try soft, but not 2 soft food like pizza or something bc if u take a chunk of it and chew it quickly and then swallow it, chances r u won't have much stuck food in ur braces.

Whatever u do, make sure 2 rinse w/ water as much as u can, even if ur in the middle of eating like if ur thirsty and drinking a sip of water like every1 else, swish it around ur mouth (really fast so nobody can see ur swishing) 2 get @ least some particles down.

But really, I think toothpicks r best 2 use if u gotta run out FAST after eating.
dont eat sticky foods or before you eat rub vaseline on your teeth (it works i just got my braces off 3 weeks ago!)
USE DENTAL WAX?
try not to eat like messy foods like spinach
get one of those little tiny brushes to go between the braces, and carry it with you!
switch to liquids, lol. knaw really there isnt a way really just brush your teeth after every meal. i know someone who has and after meal tooth brush and a regular tooth brush, that might help.
Almost anything will get stuck. Soft vegetables are pretty safe, and pizza isn't too bad, because the crust is in large pieces.
I used to drink lots of water when I had braces. That helps to soften any food particles, and rinse them out by slushing it around in your mouth. Works much better than other drinks.

I also carried around one of those little brushes for cleaning in between. They are pretty tiny, look like a bottle brush, only they are really little, and easy to tuck into your pocket. So, even while you're walking down the hall, you can grab that and use it like a toothpick, to grab any stubborn pieces.

I still have my permanent retainer on the bottom teeth (it's permanent, and is cemented behind my lower front teeth) and I still get food trapped sometimes. I've had the braces out for almost 10 years now. So... get used to it !!
take small bites. this is difficult but you will get accustomed to it. nothing sticky, nothing hard, just about everything you eat other then liquids will get stuck. So keep a large cup of drink. After each bite and swallow - take a drink and slush it around your teeth without opening your mouth. You can do it with practice. Keep napkins around in case of a spill. Soups are good, pudding, ice cream, soft bread with peanut butter on it. Soft little kid foods. You can eat anything but taffy or hard pretzels you just have to learn how to use the drink as a rinse while you eat.

When you get home from school, brush even if you haven't eaten for hours. Rinse with warm water (if that is all you have). Brushing helps prevents any infections from starting. Don't worry, it is just a matter of practice. Napkins will be your best friend. If you are having a problem getting the food past your braces, then put the napkin up in front of your mouth and use your pinkie to help get it in. You will be washing your hands and brushing your teeth like a crazy person. Remember little pieces broken off and placed inside your mouth past your braces is acceptable. That was how I would eat. People understand once they see your teeth.

I had braces twice and with head gear and springs and plates - total bands and full mouth. My teeth look and feel great now and I plan of keeping them. Key is clean, health teeth and gums.

Good luck - this time next month you will be a pro.
Nope, I had braces and I just used a lot of toothpicks. And stay away from rice.
Have a toothbrush with you so that you can brush your teeth straight after you have eaten. It doesn't take long to do that much geez!
No special foods-all foods can and will get STUCK IN THERE!!!. What really helped me was carrying a water bottle and I would swish after I would eat. This helped a great deal. Also, they are special tooth picks you can get at Walmart called brush picks and these are wonderful. Of course when you do have time for it, a water pik works absolute wonders. Good luck, I just got mine off in January.
