Answers: Yes you can smoke with braces.I was a dental assistant in all areas of dentistry.Though it's not good for you.I know you don't need a lecture on that.It's just what a dentist would tell you
What you should avoid ...gum,carmels,licorice,biting into hard things(apples,it can break the brackets off your teeth,cut them into bite size pieces if you want to eat them), those big pretzel rods,hard candies will make you at a greater risk of cavities around the bracketts.Breads can stick too.
Make sure you brush & floss daily...a waterpik works great to get stuff from between your teeth.That is where most people get cavities from wearing braces.Ask the assistant how to floss .Just in case... you thread it through the wire,then use it between your teeth.Takes time,but better than cavities anyday.
A desensitiving toothpaste & Tylenol can help when they do the adjustments.They also have wax you can put over the brackets if they are cutting into your cheeks.

Honestly, when you do things that discolor your teeth, you're going to be left with clean squares underneath the braces. It won't look good when they come off. Not to mention it's SO bad for your oral health. Keep that in mind!
