Has anyone had all 4 wisdom teeth out at once? Was it with IV anesthesia??
Question: I have to get all four out. One is out and three are impacted. How bad is it, what is the anesthesia like? Whats the recovery?
Answers: I just had mines removed by Iv anesthesia yesterday.I was sooo nervous before I did it. But it seemed so easy. First they gave me laughing gas and that relaxed me big time. Then they put something in my arm and then put the anesthesia in. I was out within seconds of them injecting it. I don't remember going to sleep. Then I heard them call me to wake up and somehow, I don't remember, I was in another room and my husband was there. You'll be falling in and out of sleep. I was crying afterward and I couldn't control it. The nurse said it was normal cause the laughing gas can make you emotional. Then I just kept falling in and out of sleep. In my head, I thought I was talking coherently, but my husband said I was mumbling.
Afterwards, you'll feel fine...until the numbing wears off. I was in biggg pain then. BIG ADVICE: get the medicine asap. I thought I was fine and thought the med could wait about 1/2 hour. Big mistake. First I felt a little pain. Then it hit hard. I was literally bent over and moaning in pain and crying. I would suggest you get the meds asap and ask if you can take it before the numbing wears off.
The meds are heaven. I can barely feel a thing now! You'll have like missing parts of what happened from after you wake up. But I m so glad I did it. I felt pretty much back to normal on today (day 2). The only thing is I had 1 impacted. That one is still sore and swollen cuz they had to cut my gums. But not as bad as I though. MY husband got them taken out awake w/the injeciton. He was in agony. He kept saying how he should have done it my way. Just keep taking the med as directed. I'm still afraid to chew meat or anything hard so I've been eating soup, porriage, yogurt, ice cream. Eggs on day 2. Good luck! =)
Its a doddle, no worse than toothache. The anasthesia is dreamlike, and the pain only lasts about an hour
I had all four pulled out with anesthesia. Don't remember much. I was prescribed antibiotic and codeine. Next was the worst only could have soups and broth. But it would last in about 3-4 days the pain subsides. Good Luck.
i haed it done 3 years ago i was put asleep , 2 were impacted 2 were not. when you wake up you will be groggy and wont feel anything, they should give you pain pills make sure you take them before the anesthesia wears off you will need them. then every day it gets a little better with in a week you will be fine. just take your meds trust me and dont use straws or smoke after or you can get a dry socket which hurts like he**. trust me. good luck
I only had two out, because I only HAD two Wisdom Teeth, but I went under IV anesthesia.
Firstly, you need to make sure someone drives you there, and is capable of driving you back, because you will be VERY drowsy after they bring you out of the anesthesia. The first day you will most likely only want to sleep. And that's okay, because the pain will be worse on the first day.
You will most likely get prescribed a painkiller like Vicodin or Percocet, make sure to only take it when you're supposed to.
Lastly, make sure your mom/whoever you live with buys plenty of applesauce, pudding, ice cream, and general soft foods, because you won't be able to chew for 2-4 days, depending.
But it's not really all that bad, and if your teeth are giving you pain you'll be very happy you got it done.
I did. They gave me the option of doing all at once or one side at a time. I found it best to get it do all at once, but I'm the type of person that would rather rip a band-aid off fast to get it over with. There was anesthesia, but it was inhaled. I don't remember anything from the procedure.
I had all four out at once using local anesthesia. The pain lasted a couple of days but I also lost a few pounds.
Well, I had all 4 out at once, and they first give you nitros gas, then stick you with an IV and the medicine in it knocked me out in about 30 seconds, then the next thing I knew, I asked if they started yet, and they said they were already done. Then I left and felt all doped up all day, but they gave me some prescrip. narcotics and I had to eat baby food for 5 days. Just make sure you don't smoke cigarettes, and make sure you clean out your mouth alot while the stiches are in, or you will get chucks of food stuck up in that whole where your tooth was, then you'll have to go back to the dentist and have them clean it out. Other than that, it sucks, but as long as you have prescription pills, it's not so bad.
Yes, I did. The anesthesia made me sick. I was in pain, but if I'm so glad I did them all at once. Most of my friends that have had it done, didn't have half as bad of an experience as me. Good luck. It's worth it in the long run.
I had all 4 of mine out at once. They gave me an I.V. of valium and demerol. I didn't feel a thing while they worked on me. I went home and slept for about 8 hours, woke up and took pain pills then went back to sleep. You aren't going to be able to do much for about a week. I just watched tv, slept and ate a little when it was time to take pain pills. You won't want much to eat, for the first week you'll have to live on yogurt, soup, pudding, ice cream...stuff that requires very little chewing. You can't drink out of straws, either. You're not supposed to create suction in your mouth like you do when drinking out of a straw, or smoking cigarettes. Within a week you'll feel better and 2 weeks later you're pretty much back to normal in terms of being able to eat and feeling really good. Best of luck to you. It's going to be okay. Just be sure you have lots of books, magazines and DVD's to keep you busy while you're recovering.
I have. Don't worry. Its not too bad. No it was not IV but local anaesthesia. My mouth, jaws and face felt numb for a couple of hours and then there was some pain for a few days. Take regular analgesic/anti-inflammatory drugs and you will be fine. Go for it. Much better and preferable than doing it one tooth at a time I think. God Bless and Cheers!
I had to get all 4 of mine out at once. I don't think my anesthesia was IV - they gave me a shot in my arm real quick, but I wasn't hooked up the whole time -- I was out in less than five seconds. I woke up after it was all over feeling high as a kite -- everything was hilarious to me. It was actually kind of fun at that time.
I didn't like that they packed my mouth with gauze. It tasted terrible, and I wasn't allowed to spit. I went home, took a vicadin (sp?), and slept until the next day.
I would say that it was uncomfortable for about 2-3 days, but mine didn't hurt a whole lot, and I didn't get chipmunk cheeks. Eating was frustrating, because I was starving but couldn't eat solid foods, and had to go slow. I only used 2-3 pain killer pills total. Saline washes helped keep everything clean.
I had never had any type of surgery or even been to the emergency room before then, so I was extremely nervous going in. Everything went fine though, it wasn't fun but it was bearable. I would say I was back to normal in less than a week.
You'll be fine. Good luck.
I had all 4 taken out, and I just had local anesthesia. It was a piece of cake. Everybody had me pretty freaked out about it, and it turned out to be nothing.
If you've ever had braces, and got used to having slight pains in your mouth, it definitely won't be a big deal.
I took one pain pill the afternoon it was done, and I slept until the following afternoon. After that, I took one or two ibuprofin a day for about 2 days.
My cheeks did swell quite a bit, and looked a little bruised, but it looked much worse than it felt. It was hard to eat for about a week, and my jaw was sore and would only open so far, but that all goes away within the week.
By the time I returned to have the stitches taken out, I felt fine.
A lot of people say they just don't remember it afterwards, but I remember the whole thing. I remember the entire conversation the dentist had with me while he was doing it. I remember him saying, you'll never remember any of this.
Trust me, I'm not just saying it was nothing because I have a high tolerance for pain. I am a HUGE sissy, and I nearly cry over papercuts.
It really wasn't a big deal; you will be fine.
I had all 4 wisdom teeth out and it was under Iv anesthesia.
I really don't remember the first day, really groggy. The next was painful and my mouth was very tender. It took about a week to feel all the way better.
Now, my husband went out the next night after his and was fine.
Good luck to you!
They give you anesthesia in a shot in the gums just like any other dental procedure. I was awake the whole time. No pain even though it did feel like they were pulling my jawbone out.
I just had all 4 of mine out this past Monday plus one other tooth. I was put under the IV anesthesia which was the best decision to make for my surgery. It took about 45 minutes for my teeth to be pulled even though they had problems removing three of them. The IV doesn't hurt much, they hook you up to all these monitors that read your heart rate and then put you in a brace so that you can't bend your arm. They warn you that you will feel a little pinch and then they insert the IV into your vain. I was out in about 3 minutes after that. When you're under you don't feel anything at all, it's like taking a nice nap. My recovery hasn't been the greatest but everyone is different. Because of the difficulties removing those teeth I have more trauma to my left side and it's been pretty painful and uncomfortable. The worst part was right after the surgery when the anesthesia wore off. Make sure you take a pain pill ASAP to avoid the pain later on. Changing the gauze sucked but I stopped bleeding pretty quickly. My swelling has gone down although I'm still a bit swollen. I still can't eat which really sucks but it's getting a bit easier as the days go by. I had to take the whole week off from work so I've been trying to catch up on rest and take care of myself. Make sure to follow all the directions from your surgeon and you should be fine. Best of luck and I wish you a speedy recovery.
