Can you brush your babys teeth TOO much??

Question: My five month old now has two teeth, so I bought the Orajel baby toothpaste and brush and he LOVES it. He actually cries when I stop brushing. I was brushing them yesterday and realized it'd been like, ten minutes then it occurred to me that I could be damaging his little teeth.. I don't add more paste, he just likes the feel of the little plastic bristles on his gums.. So, could I be hurting him more than helping?
Answers: If the toothpaste contains Flouride, then yes you can cause long-term problems. The teeth can turn brown, harden and fall straight out of the sockets. This is one of the reasons there's a poison control alert on the tube for accidental ingestion by infants. It is toxic to the body.
My 9 year old daughter was told by our dentist that she brushed her teeth too much, but more importantly to hard. I would think that because your five month old is probably teething so the brushing most likely feels good on his gums. I would cal your pediatrician and see what they recommend.
I love those little brushes that you stick on your finger. They are so easy to use and my daughter likes it too. It feels good on their gums. It would not harm them cause they are teething. It is just like them chewing on a soft toy---- no difference. The problems come into play when you gve them a tooth brush. hehe
