Are there certain things I can and can't eat or drink with dentures??

Question: I am having trouble eating. I bite in and my dentures come loose. My bottom is a partial plate, my top is a full plate. I got them in April 2006, I've already gotten a soft liner in July 2006. I went back to get another and they said it was too soon. I started using powder but the other stuff seems to work better, but nothing I've tried seems to keep the bottom partial in place.
Answers: How is it held in place? Do you have clasps around existing teeth? Complete lower dentures have trouble staying in place because basically if they are not anchored to an implant, the only thing that is keeping them there is gravity. However, partial lowers are a different story. There are many different clasps, that should help them stay in place. Sounds to me like they were not made properly. I would go back to your dentist and tell them you are not happy. They should work with you and the lab that made them to rectify the problem. If that doesn't work, phone around to different offices and see if you can get to have a second opinion so you have a better idea of what is wrong. There is so much technology today with dentistry that you should not be having these problems. Good luck! P.S. I am a dental assistant!!
Sounds like your in the same boat I am! I've had my dentures tightened 3 times in 6 months. In my case I think they are not made right. Haven't heard of others having to do that that often, but something that helps me is to cut my food up smaller. Sometimes cutting food that I didn't have to with my real teeth. I also use paste, have tried all of them! Hopefully I can afford to get some better quality dentures made some day. Until then I paste them in and chew very small bites. Good luck.
Adverts for dental adhesive seem to like to suggest corn on the cob as a reason for getting their product.
I have full upper and lower dentures. I got them two years ago. I had a lot of trouble finding a product that worked well in holding them firmly in place.
For the top I use Fixodent powder. I only put the powder around the edge and not on the whole plate. If you put it on the entire plate it is uncomfortable. For the bottom denture I find that Super Poligrip (Free) works best and holds for a long time. Do not use too much as again if you use too much it will be uncomfortable. Use a series of small dots, like two dots on each side and a small dot on either side of the center. I can pretty much eat anything including corn on the cob when using the Super Poligrip. I like the (Free) as it has no dyes or additives and does not have a weird flavor.
Good luck to you and hope this advice helps you. It does take time to find what works for you.
I have full dentures top and bottom i dont have to use any thing to hold them in place . but to help you eat take you food and cut it up into small pices it makes it easer to chew I did this till i got used to my dentures it will take a while to getting used to them but you will then you will be able to eat what ever you wont i do and i love mine i dont have to worry about tooth akes any more
You won't be able to chew food like you used to with your normal teeth. You'll have to chew smaller bites and have food on both sides of your mouth to prevent it from popping loose. Like all prosthetics, dentures are really for looks only, not function.
