How does it feel??

Question: I've just been told I have my first cavity. What is it like to get a filling? How sore do you get?
Answers: Nothing to worry about. Modern dentistry today is wonderful. They will put a little numbing stuff on a Q-tip and put it on your gums by the tooth they are going to fill so you don't even feel the prick of the needle. They will leave you awhile to get the numbing medicine to work. You shouldn't feel any pain while the dentist is filling your tooth. After the numbness wears off you might be a little bit uncomfortable depending on how big the cavity was. But you probably won't even notice it. If your mouth is a little sore it might be for from the shot. Rinsing your mouth with salt in some water really works wonders.
GOOD
it sucks to have a filling the painful part is the numbing with the needle in the gums .
if it's your first filling then it's probably not deep, and you need to take care of it so it won't get worse.

The noise will be the scary thing. Sometimes you can do without novacane (I've done it and it isn't that bad) and sometimes you get a shot in the gum, it's like any shot, in a second it's all done and it numbs the area so the doctor can work and you won't jerk while he works.

Usually you numbness goes away in a few hours (you might slobber for a few hours till it goes away so don't bite your gum).
You shouldn't be sore at all since it's not the gum he's working on, it's the tooth itself he's filling, and he won't be hitting any nerves.
i would say the numbing part is the worst...u get a shot! but after that its not too bad just a lil uncomfy!
Did they tell you what surface it is? Like surface one, two or three? If its anything under three you can probaly withstand getting it filled without a shot of novacaine but if you can not handle pain a shot is the way to go. Afraid of getting/receiving a shot? Ask for a sedative or something to help relax you before getting it. Many dentists specialize in this. The drilling and what not isn't bad if you are numb, if you have sensitive teeth tell them UP FRONT and they can help you with that as well. Many dentist offices offer music or movies to watch/listen to while they fill it. Good luck!
well i have five cavities and i had fillings in all five with no shots it hurts when they pic at it with the tools that they use but other than that its not that bad. It wont hurt for days if that's what your thinking.but if you don't get it taken care of it will get worse and yes it will hurt
