Has anyone had metal fillings replaced with porcelain??

Question: If so. How much pain do I have to endure and how much pain will it put on my purse?
Answers: Having amalgam (silver) fillings replaced with composite fillings (tooth colored resin) is not that involved of a process and is not painful as you will be numb for the procedure. Therefor beyond the injection, which is not bad--especially with the use of nitrous oxide, it is a totally painless process.

The cost depends upon the number of tooth surfaces involved in the original filling. Each tooth has five surfaces.
If the fillings are rather small, say just on the top (occlusal surface) the fillings are around $150-- maybe more or less...depends on the dentists fee's.

If the original filling is very large the dentist may suggest a porcelain crown which will cover the tooth and lend strength as well as aesthetics. This procedure however, is much more expensive.
it doesn't hurt (unless the dentist hits the nerve by accident) and the price is about 30% higher than the metal ones, it looks a lot better BUT they don't last as long.
I just had all of mine replaced (vanity I know). It was about $200 for every filling, but it was worth it. My insurance covered it for every tooth that I didn't have them pay for before.
Yes, It was not any more painful than getting the metal ones. My insurance covered it, so I can't tell you your cost.
Yes, I have been having mine replace one at a time. The pain is not too bad, but I am a baby when it comes to dentists. It is something that your insurance will cover but it still ends up costing you. I do one or sometimes 2 after my 6 month checkups. I now have 3 left to replace.

One other thing that happened to me, was that one of my teeth was so thin that when they tried to replace it the tooth broke. I ended up with a crown on that one and I can see that there is one other one that the same thing may happen to.
