What kind of pain should i expect after i get my wisdom teeth cut out??
Question: my oral surgeon says that since i got an infection in my jaw that i will probably get dry socket on both sides on the bottom. i smoke cigarettes too so that will not help it much. anyone had dry socket before? how bad did it hurt and how long did it hurt for?
Answers: I had all 4 wisdom teeth out a month ago, and also had an infection, and I have to tell you once they were out it was immediate relief. My biggest problem was nausea from the anesthesia.
However, since you smoke there is a good chance for dry socket- I have heard the pain is really bad. I think when it happens you have to go back in to your oral surgeon, and they pack it with gauze soaked in oil of clove, which is supposed to provide quick relief. Also, you should get some prescription pain killers too (they gave me Vicodin) so that should help.
Good luck!!
I've heard it can be different on everyone, my friend said she felt like she was a chipmunk and my mom, said she was out partying a hours after.
my aunt did...she said it was really bad...she couldn't talk for a week...it was nasty stuff...i had my wisdom teeth pulled it hurt for while too...it isn't fun...but you get the best painkillers...so really it wasn't too bad for me...good luck
I smoke... I had 2 infected and 2 impacted... all 4 cut out at once... did not get dry socket. My sister does not smoke but did get dry socket and she said it was the worst pain she has ever felt. Put it this way dude... EXPOSED LIVING BONE... OUCH! It was agony for a week she said. Not getting drysocket I was ok.. minor ache for a few days.
YES! For me it caused headaches, jawaches, etc. I also smoke, and (duh) I drink practically everything with a straw. All you have to do is go see the surgeon and he will pack it with clove gauze. It will give you HORRENDOUS breath, but you should feel better in a few days. Also, take the Tylenol Rapid Release gels as directed.
i don't smoke, so i can't completely answer your question. i did however, get all four of my wisdom teeth removed last spring. i was put under locally, didn't feel a thing the whole time. afterwards it was sore and bled, but did not bother me a whole lot. i recovered from the intial surgery in three days, but it took me about 3 weeks to totally heal up the surgical site.
i reccomend not smoking at all afterwards, possibly get a patch to use...rinse your mouth frequently with salwater, and bite on damp teabags to clot quicker.
all in all, getting your wisdom teeth out is no worse than getting a tooth pulled.
EDIT: i was prescribed percoset(sp) but did not even fill it. ibprofen was good enough for me.
on a 1-10 scale it was about 8 and a half an it lasted a good three days thats if u dont have any pain pills left. otherwise u are going to be in a world of pain cause then u half go back to oral surgeon so they can do something with the dry sockets thats what happended to me.at least
alot of pain especially if you get impacted wisdom teeth and then
you get tempro mandibular joint syndrom from it which i have and
now i wear braces to correct the problem.
cinderellamirage
i have had my four wisdom teeth cut out and i didn't smoke because the pain was bad enough without dry socket .i didn't want to get that on top of the pain already had . good luck
It doesn't hurt to bad but I had a few teeth pulled before so I knew what to expect. But it doesn't really hurt. I didn't have dry sockets so i don't really know if they hurt much.
I don't know what my aunt had but something went really wrong and there was some fluid going into her brain and it got infected and stuff... it was pretty gross
Expect lots of pain
