I'm in so much pain??

Question: my second front tooth is chipped and it's hurts so bad that i can't drink water and i love water.i don't like going to the dentist but i have not choice.can any tell me what they might do to fix this problem at the dentist?
Answers: Depending on the size of the chip, there are several things they can consider.

Small chip - treat it like a cavity and simple repair it. They can use a porcelain mixture that will closely resemble your tooth color, so that it's not as noticeable.

Larger chip - might require a cap.

Only way to find out is to get thyself to the dentist and let the professional help you determine the best course of treatment.
Give you a shot.
it depends how big the chip is on your tooth. If its not big they might just put a piece of a fake tooth to make it whole again.
All they'll do is cap it. That's it.
you probably have an exposed nerve, my son broke a tooth while diving in a swimming pool when he was little. The dentist rebuilt the tooth and it is still great to this day and he is in his 30's. Go to the dentist, the bill will probably be the only pain you feel when you leave.
first they will probably take xrays to make sure you haven't fractured the tooth down to the root. but if hurts really bad, that might be the case. then you may have to have a root canal, but you can have lots of novocain, and they can give you nitrous or prescribe you a pill to take beforehand to help calm your nerves. if you're really nervous, then they can maybe knock you out. since it is a front tooth it will not hurt too bad--promise. this is the worst case scenario.

if its not down to the root, they probably fix you up with a temporary crown, and you'll get a porcelin one in a couple weeks that will be permanent. if it's just a little chip, they might not even have to do that, they'll just use some material the color of your tooth, kind of like a filling, but it will look normal!

i have been thru SOOO many dental procedures this year that I know you'll be fine. good luck--i feel for you!
probably put a cap on it
All good answers. In the meantime, to ease the pain, you can try oragel (for baby teething pain) or what always works for me which is suck a plain old aspirin, keeping it as near the bad tooth as you can. This really does not taste good, but will do much more to reduce the pain than swallowing the aspirin.
See the links below:

PERSONAL NOTE: In order to drink water comfortably, try using a straw between your jaw and teeth on the unaffected side...and clench your teeth slightly while 'drawing'. The water should go passed the back teeth before swallowing.

I hope this helps...if it hurts, you have broken it to the nerve...a root canal may be needed. As far as appearance, they have a substance that the tooth may be 'built up' to look similar to the way it did before the injury...or they could pull it and insert a 'socket tooth'. Ask for N2O if necessary to reduce the anxiety prior to treatment. It costs a little more; however, it reduces the pain associated with dentistry. Some dentists actually use anesthesia (oral surgeons). Good luck.
