Why does orajel make your mouth numb but not your fingers??

Question: orajel is a pain releaver for tooth aches.
Answers: The anesthetic in orajel is formulated to diffuse across mucus membranes (like the gums), not regular skin
probably because the inside of your mouth is more susceptible, more diffusion goes on in your mouth than on your hand. The skin on your fingers protects you.
It will make the surface of your finger numb if you apply enough. It is easier to numb your mouth because the skin is thinner and blood vessels are right at the surface.....it is almost direct to the blood stream.
it's made for tooth-pain removing purpose only.
Great question! Never thought about it ,
but all of the above sound right to me ~
