Nicotine Gum/ Quitting smoking??

Question: Has anyone tried it? I'm using it to try and quit again but i don't find it helps much. I used it the first time and when i stopped smoking i became addicted to the gum, has this happened to anyone? I want to quit smoking but at the moment i just can't seem to, if i can't quit i'd like to cut down, but both seem so far off a the moment, its like i live with a cigarette in my hand now, especially now its christmas with all the stress and everything! Any advice?
thanks x
Answers: to quit smoking is not easy. i've been quit since 4/1/05. my lungs are not the same. be sure you are real healthy and have a mind to just put them down. but be prepared to get sick alot. the tar and nicotine that layers your lungs will start to thin and every cold will be your worst enemy. when you do quit talk about it to someone especially when you want one. it helps. say i really want one. no i really do. this will past in about 10 minutes. i will thinking of you and good luck, but suggest you wait til the holidays are over.
My sister had no luck with the gum but finally did quit using a nicotine nasal spray. This spray is also very addicting and she still uses it occasionally but I think it is better than smoking!!
I quit smoking almost a year ago (Jan. 6th will be a year!!). I tried many times and then I decided that was the problem, don't try, just quit. I used nothing, i just stopped buying them. It sucked and I sometimes just bawled I wanted to have a smoke sooo bad. You have to have A LOT of will power. Good Luck you can do It!!!Today I'm so happy I quit, now other people I work with are quitting the same way I did. Oh yeah I smoked for 16 YEARS!!!!!
sometimes it doesn't work for people smoking, because it depends on how strong you are addicted to it for it to work
I quit a long time ago, when nicotine gum first came out. Its still hard but you can do it. Once you have cleaned out your lungs and are no longer in the habit of smoking you can start to wean yourself away from the gum.

An alternative you should know about is the anti depressent called Welbutrin. You'll have to talk to your doc to get it but they say it really makes quiting easier.
My mom quit. She tried almost everything, but nothing worked. Finally, she just started tapering off. Each week eliminate the amount of cigs you smoke. It took about two months, but at the end of that, she was just smoking about 2 cigs a day. It wasn't so hard for her to give it up then. But honestly, she still craves them today.
