Who do dentists practice on before they are qualified??

Question: Lots of health professionals (eg: Doctors, Physiotherapists) 'practice' on dead bodies while they are studying - Do Dentists have to do this too?
Answers: They practice on mannequines first (fitted with real teeth), then they move up to each other, family members and volunteers. Like it was already stated they do so under the close supervision a qualified dentist.
Same goes for Hygenists.......I was my wife's victim....I mean patient....several times as were most of my family.

They do use teeth from deceased people, but they are usually removed from the rest of the body.
nope=you were the first patient.
Yah they practice on moslems
On people that are too poor or cheap to go to a more experienced practitioner.
they just read and study and in college they practice on people who want free dental work.
Most people who go to dental school practice on patients. They have people come to the school that can not afford a regular dentist and the students perform the work on them but they are supervised by a professional.
They practice on each other! Dentists nearly always have a mouthful of fillings! There are also special dummies which can be implanted with real teeth (donated by people who give their bodies for medical reseacrch) that they practice on.
As a kid growing up in Manhattan - I was brought to the torture chambers of the Guggenheim Clinic. It was a dental clinic. The dentists were all students from Columbia's Dental College - learning their trade.

Odd, years later when I worked for NYU - they told me one of my benefits was being able to use the NYU Dental school -- where their students could get experience from my mouth. That was one benefit I would NEVER use...

BTW - Guggenheim was on a sliding skill based on your income. Many of their services were free to the public. NYU has always charged - just at a reduced rate.
Tigers and monkeys.
I do not know if dental students work on cadavers. They are closely supervised by qualified dentists in the Dental Clinic at their (medical) school just like physicians and surgeons. I go to the Dental School's clinic in my city because I have special problems and they have the very best dentists available. The prices are less than private dentist clinics but they are not restricted to working just on poor people. I see people from all walks and classes there.
When the dentist first starts his/hers real patient, they see them in the dental school office. They see patient's that can't really afford dental treatment. The cost is low and good dental work because their professors check their work.
They practice on poor and indigent people.
We practice on fake teeth and then on teeth that have been extracted. Then we practice on people who think that they are getting superior dental care for low prices in a dental school.
