My weight has plateaued and I can't figure out why.??

Question: Hi,

I am an adult male, 6'5 , 263 lbs. I am very muscular, so this is a chubby weight for me and by no means fat or obese.

Ok, I got as heavy as 276 and decided I needed to lose weight. I got down very easily to 263, but I am now stuck.

I can eat like a bird and still my weight stays at 263. I may go down for a day or two to 258 and once even to 255, but then I eat one bowl of cereal and the next day I am back to 263.

It is weird and frustrating. How can I eat a few ounces of cereal and gain 8 pounds, yet that is exactly what happened? It is so hard to struggle for three weeks to drop those 8 pounds only to have them magically reappear overnight.

Any ideas?
Answers: Here are some suggestions:

1) You don't mention what it is like to eat like a bird. How many calories is this? If you are serious about losing weight, you should probably consider measuring calories. You can always use a free website such as http://www.fitday.com to help you.

2) If you are starving yourself, your body's metabolism will ultimately slow down. Again, you don't mention how much activity / or what your calorie counts are.

3) Water retention. If you are had a lot of salt your body could be holding onto fluids, which would cause a higher than normal weight.

4) Your scale isn't accurate. They are finicky things. Be sure that it is properly calibrated.

Quit weighing yourself every day. Try weighing yourself once every 3 - 4 days or so -- at the the same time each day. It is normal for your body to have it's weight go up or down by plus or minus 5 pounds.

Good luck.
You're body stopped responding, give yourself a 4 day vaction and eat burgers or what ever, you body will not want that and will allow you to loose more weight, also change up your workout routine to something completly different from what you are doing, change it for 1-3 months. Change again after that time.
increase your aerobic exercise!
get 30 minutes daily then gradually build up to 45, 60 minutes)
the best way without doubt is jogging (fast walking if you are prevented from jogging)
you can also use an elliptical machine or stationary bike
do not drink soda pop or eat fried foods or buttery foods
drink a lot of water and tea
go vegetarian and eat small meals each day such as fruit and oatmeal and rice & beans
daily aerobic exercise + vegetarian eating = success!
