Recently introduced increased weight lifting to increase weight loss; instead I have gained 4lb; Why??
Question: I am a runner and my bf is a power lifter. I got stuck on a plateau w/ my weight loss. He suggested increasing my weight training. Instead of losing more I have gained 4 lbs. Is this going to continue or do I just need to stick it out and I will eventually lose weight. HELP, I don't want to gain back weight that I have worked so hard to lose!!!
Answers: don't get focused on weight girl. focus on muscle tone and inches. NOTHING has helped my running more than lifting weights. I am back to sub 40 10ks and that is AFTER a sub 1 hour bike in a triathlon. I am up 5 lbs but am faster, stronger, and look better. Also, i am over 40, so I am not some 20yr old telling you i am running sub 40s, i am 42 and running sub 40s. hammies, standing leg presses, seated leg presses, squats, lunges, hacks, leg extensions, have ALL helped.
Would you rather be 125 lbs and reasonably fit or be 130 lbs and be REALLY fit and look better?? And, at 130 lbs, you might actually wear slightly smaller clothes too.
Again, don't sweat the weight. Also, NO it won't continue. Give yourself a season at your heavier weight. Run some races you have done before. My guess is you will be faster. And...that extra 4lbs you have gained IS NOT fat!
Are you trying to lose weight or just fat. You may have gained 4 lbs of muscle. Increasing muscle helps increases your metabolism and helps you burn more calories. You need to decide if you want to lose body fat, or just get lighter.
You're gaining, but it's probably muscle, not fat. As long as you're losing the fat where you need to, don't worry about the actual number that is your weight. You can also find out your body mass index (BMI) to tell you what percentage of fat your body is. If you lose fat, it will decrease. That is more important than what you actually weigh.
Muscle weighs more than fat which would explain your weight gain, you also need to lose fat at the same time to decrease your weight. You shouldnt rely on weight alone however, check your measurements and how your clothes fit for a true test of how your body shape is changing
muscle weights more then fat.. having tone muscle is better then having a slender build.. stop the weight training if you dont want to gain any muscles
