How can I stop craving unhealthy food??
Question: I have been working out alot lately, and lifting weights, and it really bothers me when I see other people drinking coke and eating fast food, because I really want to eat that stuff but I know I can't because I need to stay in shape. I'm not overweight, because my weight is 110 and my height is 5 1 (I'm 15) so that means my BMI is 20.1 which means I am at the correct weight, so I have been trying to gain more muscle. But how can I stop myself from wanting all those sugary drinks and food because I always have a craving for it! Right now I only drink water, milk, orange juice, and protein shakes.
Answers: If you are at your proper weight, and in good health, there is no reason why you can't occassionally enjoy foods that are considered taboo. If it can't be a once and a while thing, better to avoid entirely than let it start up. There are many healthy foods in which you may indulge that are as tasty or more so than the dangerous crap. Look into it. Compare the labels.
Deprivation, or the feeling there of, can have dangerous backlash. Schedule a treat from time to time, but why anyone would want a soda at any time is beyond me. there are so many good alternatives. Not everything good has to be bland or without pep if you use portion control. Good luck Hon.
Substitute those food with sweet fruits like dates or plums. You can also take snacks like honey roasted nuts instead of chips.
Well, I think it would help if, instead of just not eating unhealthy food, you slowly eat less and less. So for example, if you ate 2000 calories a day of fast food normally, try lowering it to 1700 or something. It is better because you won't be craving the fast foods like crazy, but you will slowly learn to have it only once of twice a month or even none at all.
And try finding some easy, healthy recipes that you can eat, instead of just protein shakes and milk >.>
I'm by far no expert but the guy at GNC told me that Colin cleanse will clean out your system and make the cravings go away. I don't know if its true because i didn't try it, he might have just been telling stuff to get me to buy it.
What I do is when i want to eat bad food I just look at it like i can spend two mins eating this cheeseburger yeah it might seem satisfying but the 30 mins on the treadmill trying to work it off isn't that fun.
Just tell yourself you don't want them right now and treat yourself once in a while. don't deprive yourself totally. we want what we can't have, but if we tell ourselves we can have it but later we aren't depriving ourselves and then have it but in moderation when you do an limit it to once a week
Try adding a little more variety. Flavored waters. Sugar Free Kool Aid or drinks like Propel Fitness Water. There are a lot of new flavors out there. Start trying them to add some diversity to your drinks.
Cook! Try new recipes, experiment with spices. Get a vegetarian cook book and try something new! You're basically trying to beat cravings & the main way to do that is to find other flavors to satisfy those cravings.
Eventually, your tastes will change. I used to live on Pop. I've had one in just over two years & it was kind of nasty. Way sweet! I cook stir fry chicken & veggies. Eat whole wheat breads sparingly and (like you) mainly drink water (including flavored waters), orange juice and milk.
It's a gradual change, and takes some work. But, you will be glad you did. Want some more motivation? Look up on-line or ask for nutritional info from all those fast food places. Check out the calories. Look at the fat. It's not pretty.
