Is there any way to get rid of a cat allergy??
Question: I have lived with cats all my life, the last year and a half we did not have a cat. Oct. 20th we got a kitten and it seems I have developed a cat allergy(itchy eyes and throat, sneezing 20 times a day which is very abnormal for me.). Is this normal? and is there any way to remedy this? short of getting rid of the cat.
Answers: Take everything the cat lies on, and wash it in the washer and drier. Use a detergent that won't bother you and the cat more, like Arm and Hammer.
Use a dust mask when you vacuum. That can really help. Don't have the bag to full.
I like to use lint brushes over furniture. And you can where the mask when you are sweeping floors. That is the fastest way to get alot of it.
Unless you have a sweeper you can adjust that low, but that is hard, it could burn up the belt.
Can someone else help you with the housework? That way you are not as exposed.

Shots.... discuss allergy treatments with your doctor. One method is to give shots that are designed over time to increase your tolerance to the allergen (cat).
I would get rid of the cat before I would take shots the rest of my life.

But seriously, there isn't really any way to eliminate cat allergy. You can minimize it by doing things like washing your hands before rubbing your eyes and avoid petting the cat. Make the cat stay outside and away from your bed. Things like that will help. you can also buy HEPA air cleaning machines that will also help. antihistamines such as Claritin, allegra and zytec can also help with the symptoms. But there is no way to eliminate a cat allergy.

You might grow out of it, otherwise no, there's no way besides shots or living with it and hoping you get used to it.

One thing that I have allways heard is to make sure that the cat
cannot access your bedroom. Which I don't do... my cat sleeps
with me! Wash all the items that the cat lies on and you might
consider a hepa filter air cleaner.

Try taking a damp cloth and rubbing them down once a day. And full baths every week or two. They will get used to them. Just use something that won't dry out their skin because that can make the problem worse
Allergy shots do work, but they take so long to start helping that you might as well get rid of that cat and get another one later. It may take two years for the shots to help.
