What can help my Congestion??
Question: I have tried just about everything, Sudafed, Neti pot, Saline mist, tylenol congestion, but nothing is working so far. My throat hurts also I guess since i have been breathing from my mouth for the past week. The only thing that makes me feel better is Afrin but i am afraid to get addicted to it so i am trying to steer away from that..
PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!

I have an irregular heartbeat so any medication with ephedrine is a NO NO..
Claritan and Tylenol for some odd reason make me feel nervous and have loss of breath (maybe it has something to do with my irregular heartbeat)

Answers: You need to go to your doctor and have him prescribe something like Nasonex. He'll probably also advise that you stay on Sudafed and he might even prescribe something such as Zyrtec. If you have allergies, then you need to treat the allergy and not the congestion. Two of the earlier second generation antihistamines, Seldane (terfenadine) and Hismanal (astemizole), were found to have unacceptable heart side effects and are no longer available on the market. Most of the new meds are better.
