How can I overcome the lactose intolerance??

Answers: Unfortunately, there is no actual medical treatment that can 'cure' you of lactose intolerance. (Be reassured that, when considered worldwide, those adults who can digest lactose are far in the minority. See the Wikipedia article on Lactose Intolerance at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lactose_int... for more information on this).

Normally, L.I. is treated by modifying your diet, cutting out those foods with too much lactose in them. How much is too much depends on your own physiology, but the average L.I. person can consume about a cup of milk a day without dangerous effects.

If you still feel like consuming dairy products, lactase tablets or liquid can help. For example, a few drops (about 4) of the liquid into a gallon of milk, when left to set for 24 hours, will reduce the lactose content of the milk by ~70%. Doubling the dose will result in a 90% reduction in the same time frame.

With the pills, you take one to three before a meal that will contain significant amounts of lactose-containing foods. These replace your missing lactase, allowing the lactose to be broken down in your body.

Finally, you can replace your normal dairy products with reduced lactose products, which are becoming more available in the United States, and are common in some other countries, such as Finland.

One of the best resources on the net for questions about L.I. is Steve Carper's Lactose Intolerance Clearing House at http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages...
im not sure about this but i think now you can buy pills with lactase (lactose is what you cannot tolerate because you have a deficience of lactase)
They do make pills that you can take before you eat any dairy. One brand is Lactaid. However, instead of being lactose intolerant, you may have a dairy allergy. It has the same symptoms, but if this is the case then Lactaid won't help. You'll need to take an anti-allergy medication such as benadryl.
I suspect that, if you are truly lactose intolerant, you can't get over it.

Maybe your body is trying to tell you that milk and other dairy products are not your natural food.

No species other than man drinks the milk of another species. Many people think that dairy products cause many of the chronic illnesses so widespread today.
I'm lactose intolerant too. I've had no luck with those darn pills. But Lactaid milk doesn't bother me and tastes good enough that even my husband drinks it. There are also a lot of lactose free products out now--even ice cream. The key is compromise. Just look around for a lactose free version of the product you want.

Silk soy is pretty good too; although higher in fat.
You can't...one of my friends said he took those pills that replenish the bacteria in your stomach and never had a problem with lactose intolerance again lol...I haven't tried it and I don't really believe him but hmm...
Bryers makes a lactose free ice cream btw :D it's hard to find sometimes but it exists (keeps me from going crazy)
I am lactose intolerant and I found out 2 weeks ago. you may live with it for the rest of your life, or like some people... you may outgrow it. Stay away from foods that are all milk like cottage cheese or milk. There are pills you can take...but personally...I dont trust them.
You can buy lactaid milk and pills.

I just avoid it because I am allergic not intollerant. Whole Foods sell soy yogurt and soy pizza.
