Chronic illness or allergy??

Question: for years now, for as long as i can remember, I've been experiencing times when i will have allergy/cold-like symptoms and recover and get sick again in a month. i was never tested for allergies but something tells me i should. i'm sick of being sick and not knowing how to get well. does anyone know the procedure goes (allergy tests)? thanks for your time.
Answers: Others have explained the procedure for allergy tests, but there are other things you can do to work out whether you have allergies.

One, keep a diary. Note the weather as well as what you eat. Also note your symptoms. Once a week, look back at your diary and see if a pattern is emerging.

Second, buy yourself some antihistamine tablets next time you get your cold symptoms. Make sure they are straight antihistamine, not combined with decongestant or any other medicine. If the antihistamine clears your nose on its own, there's a very good chance that the cause is an allergy - because that's all antihistamine does, is suppress your allergic reaction. So if you're not having a reaction, it shouldn't do anything!
ME TOO..if it's clear, it's allergies. I've never had the test done, I just walk in and demand a shot and it lasts for a year. (it's called Kenalog or Ketalog)..if I don't get the shot, sick for so long I really do get sick (like pnuemonia) because all of that snot dripping into your lungs everynight while you sleep will drown you..
Don't let it go on longer than a month, trust me.
It sound like either you have a chronic sinusitis or are as you think allergic to smothing you are commonly interacting with...i would go with the Allergy test...See an EENT ..eye,ear,nose and throat doctor...he or she can help...
Allergy tests are great way to find out just what exactly you're allergic too (if you are).
They draw a giant grid on your back, I had 98 boxes drawn on mine. Then they put 98 different drops of things that people could possibly be allergic to, and I mean everything(dusts, molds, dander, pollens, trees, grasses etc)
Then they take a pin and 'scratch' it into your skin, and you lie there for about I think 1/2 hour or so. When the time is up, then they'll look at tyour back and see which boxes (allergens) have flared up on your back.
Then they get shots of the ones that were inflamed, and shot you just on the surface of the skin on your forearm. I had 8 flare ups on my back, so got 8 shots on my arm. They then make you wait a while to see just how bad those flare up (and make sure that you really were allergic to them).
It's a long process, and you itch like crazy and can't scratch, and can't move to much bc if you shift, the droplets of allergens will move into the other boxes.
BUT totally worth finding what you're allergic to.
this is a common mistake. i was in the same position as u for a number of years. i also thought it made sense that it was allergies b/c it would always happen at the change of the season. it would last for a long time n come back. it felt like pneumonia, flu, and allergies all at the same time. doctors will say anything and prescribe anything. before u go to the doctor u should try taking two vitamin c pills a day, 500 mg each, TIME RELEASED PILLS!!!! this can be found at the drug store. u should use nature's choice. i found that i just had a really weak immune system. u can also eat fruits and veggies and anything with antioxidants!!! p.s. if u smoke....stop.
