What is the most effective way to get rid of poison ivy??
Answers: The best way I've found to get rid of poison ivy, oak, sumac or any skin reaction (including itching due to bug/mosquito bites) is a herb called Mugwort. It comes in a liquid, suspended in oil (not sure what kind, read the label) and is available at health food stores and places they sell loose herbs/homeopathic products and places usually referred to as 'New Age' type shops. Put a few drops on the affected area and let it air dry. Also, put a few drops in a glass of water and drink it a couple times a day (according to body weight, the dosing is usually on the bottle). Taken internally, it will both speedily clear up current problems as well as help make you 'immune' to future problems. I have a friend who has all three 'poisons' growing in her back yard, and I convinced her to take the stuff for about a week before going out to tackle her yard and she didn't break out even a little bit. Put it on skin that is already itching and it will clear up completely within 24-72 hours. It is really amazing stuff, and it really works. Oh, and it costs about $3.50 for a bottle that will last most of the summer, even if taken every day.
take an oatmeal bath
there is a product called tecnu extreme should be at local pharmacy
You cant get rid of poison ivy. It is caused by the oil in the plant getting on your skin. It will go away in a week or 10 days. In the meantime, wash the affected area with warm water. Benadryl usually help relieve the itching. Calamine lotion also helps. But by all means, DO NOT SCRATCH IT. It will only make it worse. Good luck.
calamine and benedryl. drys them up while you sleep like a baby.
Keeping it dry is most important. Rhuli-Spray is better than Calamine Lotion. Watch it carefully though. I thought mine was cleared up (was under a doctor's care), went on vacation and after 3 days my legs swelled up to 3 times their normal size and I got red streaks. Of course I had to go to the hospital and was diagnosed with blood poisoning and had to take large does of prednisone. I had permanent scars from it. I had an unusual reaction to it because I have sensitive skin; just be on the lookout for anything unusual.
