How come I sneeze when I eat onions but not be allergic to it??

Question: I've never cried from an onion before but when i eat a mouthful of onions i never sneeze. I'm pretty sure im not allergic because i asked my doctor.
Can you tell me why? Is this normal?
Answers: Sneezing is a response by our noses to irritants and allergens. If you are not experiencing any other symptoms when you eat onions, then the strong smell of the onions is likely just irritating your nose rather than it being an allergic reaction.

Everybody's noses react differently to things. Your reaction is nothing to be concerned about. Especially since your doctor is not worried.
Don't know if it is normal. I would think the only way for a doctor to know if you are allergic to onions is to perform at test such as a skin test. If you are not allergic to it, maybe it just acts as an irritant to you. I remember my allergist saying that some things are just irritants to certain people.
My cousin's husband is allergic to onions. He can't eat anything with onions in it. I have never asked about his symptoms, but they must be bad.
