Can (HYDROXYZ HCL) be used to get rid of hives??

Question: I just recently start breaking out in hives I dont know what it is that im alergic to, a week ago before the outbreak i was getting bit by an unknown bug or insect of some sort, i couldnt see it i would just notice these red swollen boil like bites everywhere and when they would go down after putting acohol on them then they would leave a scar, & before the unknown the bites began i was dog watching for my cousin which they claim the dog doesn't have ticks or flees but i didnt start getting the bites untill the dog was here, a week after that i began to break out into hives on my arms and my face, my aun't said it could be the tylenol cold or pain medication im taking but, i don't think its that because i've been taking those forever. I went to the doctor and they prescribe me (hydroxyz hcl )and antibiotics but i didnt get the antibotics i just got the hydroxyz hcl will this get rid of the hives? and also what is a good cream to put on them to get rid of them?

Answers: Sounds like you have hives, but sometimes it can be small skin infections. If these itch and come/go, they're probably hives, and yes, the Hydroxyzine will help. It's similar to Benadryl, which would also help. Don't take these at the same time! Either one will make you tired. As for creams, you can try over the counter Hydrocortisone 1% cream. It's safe, but I would only use it on the spots, not your whole body! If these get worse, you should see a Dermatologist or Allergist.
