Allergic to river, ocean and swimming pool water, what can I do??

Question: When I go swimming I break out in hives and they drive me mad. I have tried anthistamines, seen a doctor (all they said was we don't know why). I can only stay in the water for at least 5 minutes if that. I love swimming and with summer coming on I would love to go to the pool again.

I can have a bath or shower and it doesn't affect me.
Is there anything I can take or do so I can go swimming. I have had the problem all my life and I am 52 now
Answers: The only option I can think of is buying one of those large backyard pools that you fill up yourself and use your hose to fill it up, since that water doesnt affect you. I am allergic to chlorine so I need antiheistamines whenever I go swimming in a pool, and sometimes even when I drink tap water that hasnt been filtered. I have no problem in the ocean or river though. Rivers are fresh water and are generally cleaner than the water we drink. I cant stand the salt in ocean water and can react to that too though. GL with finding a solution.
How can you be allergic to river water...that is where the dams are filled from that feed the taps in your house.
Are you sure it is the water? My dad is allergic to sunshine. Try this test: Put on your bathing suit and spray yourself at home with the water hose. Stay wet and in the sun and see if you break out. If it is sunshine, you may need to swim at night.
Well, if your 52 and still complaining instead of going to the doctor's office every day of your life, you are not desperste to swim. You might have chlorine or salt allergies.
