What kind of medications should I avoid if i have even the slightest bit of lactose intolerance? Tylenol ok??
Question: Any and all info. is appreciated, I am coming down with a cold and I am worried what to take and what not to take.
Answers: Yes it's absolutely ok.
almost all medicines are lactose free, dairy products is what you need to avoid, good luck
Lactose intolerance is not hard to live with.Go to your nearest health food store. I know they can help. There are many rememdies for this. Its not curable, but it makes it easier to live with. I have it and believe me I am comfortable with what I take.
Tylenol is ok. Its composition is Acetaminophen. You would probably want to avoid any dairy product. Treatments are ok, and are not related with this condition, where your enzyme that catabolize the catabolic reaction from lactose to glucose and galactose is not working or is just absent, which will create accumulation of this sugar with consequent increase in the osmotic pressure in your intestines, and consequent diarrhea.
Being Lactose intolerant myself you only need to worry about milk. Tylenol has no milk in it. Think about it. It is Acetaminophen. Milk sugars are used in some things but not in medicines. The only thing a lactose intolerant person would get is a little diarrhea. Take this bit of advice don't eat pizza because the combination of cheese and tomatoes will burn you stomach. Just take Lactaid or it's generic counterpart Lactase. Then you can eat Pizza and Ice cream. No medication will harm you. Take the 4500 unit or higher.
Do be careful not to take to much Tylenol it can destroy your liver and lead to death. Asprin is safer.
It's good that you're concerned--if you have any medical condition you have to be careful about medications prescribed, & even over the counter stuff. ASK YOUR PHARMICIST. They know better than ANYBODY, & it doesn't cost a farthing! I can't take tylenol ever, & if I thought I was coming down with a cold, (I never do! but if I did), I'd just make some chicken soup, drink lots of fluids & rest. Aspirin would probably be safe, (if you have a fever), but I'm not really qualified to answer, only suggest what I put in caps...Do it?.
You should be able to safely take Tylenol and Benedryl. I do not recommend Claritin (as it has lactose in it).
