What have your experiences been with IgG allergy testing? I was recently tested and 31 foods came up positive.?

Answers: I had similar test results from allergy testing with the majority of the foods tested coming up positive, everything from meats to lettuce. However, it doesn't mean that I can't eat these foods. There is a difference between a reaction on a skin test and a true allergy which may cause anaphalactic shock. Never mess with the peanut, shellfish and other large allergies. When I was tested, my allergy doctor told me that usually he tells people to avoid the foods that comes back positive; however, then I wouldn't have much food to choose from. So, he told me to try a substitution diet...if I wanted to eat beef on Monday, have a hamburger for lunch and a steak for supper, but don't eat beef again until the next Monday. This way I could tell what foods would trigger my allergy symptoms. At this point, the foods I know that I react to are chocolate, onions, pork, milk, eggs, and potatoes. I also received a food dropper from the doctor for the seven unavoidable foods: eggs, milk, wheat, yeast, coffee, corn and soybean (yes, I tested positive with all of these). Every 2 years, or more often depending on symptoms, I get retested. The first time I was tested, strawberries and blueberries came up positive, but the second time strawberries were negative but blueberries were still positive. Ironically, I had eaten some strawberries but no blueberries...Anyway, my doctor says just because some of the things came back negative that were previously positive, does not mean there is no longer a sensitivity to the food, it just means I haven't had as many recent reactions to it and I should not go out and eat it everyday because it would then definitely come back positive with the next testing. Anyway, the testing seems accurate; however, it does not mean that you will have the problem with all 31 positive foods. Good luck.
They are accurate but also can change. The shots(IgG) will help alot. I have a highly allergic genetic family. It has never skipped one person in four generations. I have too many to count, really my doctor says that my family and our allergies and complication because of have put all his children through college and some through med school. He laughs but it's true. Here is the thing. If you move say from a Northeast location like Boston, then to a Southwest location like San Diego, your allergies can change. Some might go away and new ones can begin. So then you need to be tested all over again. What no one told me is that allergies to food ( and if you choose to ignore it, like I did) later in life can result in arthritis. Both cause a your immune system to go into overdrive. So take this seriously. I'd even speak to your doctor about it. I found that they don't tell you everything if you don't ask questions. Also someone else asked about fruit allergies and latex allergies. So if you have any allergies to fruit you should be careful with latex. There is such a thing as crossover reactions which can happen at anytime anywhere, so I carry and inhaler and benadryl along with a couple tablet of prednisone at all times. This is something to take seriously and learn more about the more informed you are the better likelyhood of not having really bad anaphylaxis.
Sorry folks...but IgG is NOT the food (or any!) allergy antibody AT ALL!!! THAT is IgE!!! Therefore, after a detailed HISTORY taken by your Allergist or primary care physician POINTS to a suspicion of true food allergy....skin testing is the testing method that still today is the gold standard of all testing...fairly accurate, and virtually COMPLETELY accurate in ruling OUT a food allergy with a negative result! There is NO ROLE FOR IgG TESTING of ANY FOOD ALLERGENS WHATSOEVER --- PERIOD!!!! Very important to know this when you are evaluating both food allergy as a topic of concern...and Allergists or any other Docs taking a stab at your problems!!!
