Does anyone's child have an allergy to pineapple??
Question: My daughter ate a fresh pineapple this morning and minutes later she was red around her mouth and a rash broke out on her arms. I later realized it was where the pineapple had dripped down her arms and neck when she was eating it. She has eaten pineapple before and this has never happened.
Answers: Although citrus fruits belong to the family Rutaceae, and pineapples are of the family Bromeliaceae, my son is allergic to citrus fruit and pineapples. He breaks out into a rash if he eats it. I'm sometimes concerned with him getting enough vitamins since he can't eat a lot of fruits, but my doctor just said to give him what he can eat (apples, strawberries, etc.) and to make sure he takes a children's multi-vitamin daily. Also, when/if you do slip up and happen to eat it again and they get their rash, Eucerin really helps.
I was when I was yonger. It was wierd too because it was only fresh stuff. canned stuff did not bother me. wierd I know.
That's weird if it's never happened before..
maybe its the arms....lol
I am 18 but sometimes my mouth gets itchy when i eat pineapple and kiwi fruit. Its not dangerous though.
I have allergies to Kiwi.
My mouth swells & my tongue gets red painful bumps on it.
Allergies are a strange & mysterious thing to me, haha.
Also, when I was a kid I used to be somewhat allergic to shampoo & soap. No matter how sensitive skin the bottle claimed to be, if it touched my skin as I washed it out, I would get an itchy rash. However, around age 13 I started to notice this disappearing. Now, thankfully, I have no shampoo-aggrivated symptoms at all.
I do know that when people have a latex allergy they may also have an allergy to pineapple, banana, or kiwi. I am not sure if it works the other way around, but that's worth getting checked out all the same.
when i was little my mom would always tell me to pick off the pineapples off the pizza cause i was allergic.
but now im okay, and i love pineapples
I'm an allergist, and we see this ALL the time. It sounds like your daughter may have what we call oral-allergy syndrome. It sounds like a big deal, but it's not. This is NOT the same thing as a peanut allergy, where it can be life-threatening. Oral-allergy symptoms are usually due to the acidity of the fruit/vegetable, so wherever it contacts the skin, i.e. mouth/arms/neck in your daughter's case, it causes a rash.
We usually try a daily antihistamine first, like Zyrtec or Allegra, and often that controls these symptoms, if they're annoying. Claritin is weak, and doesn't work as well.
As for latex or other cross-reactions, we do see some tropical fruits cross-react with latex and figs, believe it or not.
Ultimately, if you're concerned enough, you should see an allergist who can offer some easy tests to sort things out!
Hope this helps! If you need help finding an allergist, send me a message and I'll help out.

My daughter did when she was younger. She has since outgrown it but still won't eat it.
