What does a Yellow/Orange watery mucus discharge mean??

Question: I got this recently, when I woke up I thought I had a nose bleed so i went to go get some tissue. As I checked I saw the tissue had absorbed a yellow watery fluid, the tissue was white so theres no mistaking what I saw. I had a cold a week ago, I though maybe it was just a sinus discharge, but im still curious and worried. I saw some other people have had this happend so at least I know im not alone, but I would like to know what it is and what causes it.
Thank you for any help.
Answers: Sounds like a sinus infection. You need to see your doctor right away so he/she can prescribe some antibiotics.
you have an infection and need antibotics. the greener that it is, the worse the infection. yellow isnt so bad, clear is okay. you do need to see a doctor though.
Please read this carefully. Many different causes of an illness have the same symptoms. You need to see a physician! I say this because there could be any number of causes. From a virus to an infection, to something a lot more serious. I say this from experience. Several years ago my son had the same problem. He thought he had a cold or a sinus infection.
It turned out that he had something far more serious, an infection originating in his mouth. It spread to his sinuses. In the end he almost lost some of his teeth. He faced potential surgery to remove the affected area. The strange thing was he had no pain in his mouth. By the time I convinced him to see a doctor it was critical. The doctor said it is always possible when an infection of any type goes untreated it is potentially fatal. The other reason I tell you this is because 2 years later, the same thing happened to me. I thought I had an infection or a cold. I did all the standard things you do when you get a cold. After about two weeks when it continued I started coughing up phleme, getting weak and couldn't breath at all. When my husband came home he found me passed out on the floor. I was rushed to the hospital. I had had a severe asthma attack and almost died. I didn't even know I had asthma. As it turns out, now I am on breating treatments and daily oxygen and am pretty much home bound and trust me that is no picknick. The physician at the E.R convinced me that any time you are experiencing anything out of the ordinary that persists for more than a week it could potentially be a lot more serious than you think. The body gives you signs when something is really wrong. If it persists or gets even slightly worse you need to see a physician! My son almost waited too late and so did I! He could have lost his teeth and a portion of his jaw. I could have lost my life. I understand now why they say you need an annual check up. It could be nothing but a cold or it could be really serious. The mucous is a sign that something is wrong but it doesn't tell you what it is. It is the bodies way of trying to fight it off. That doesn't always work. If you see a doctor the worse that can happenen is you're out a doctors fee. The best that can happen is that you find out you're alright, or that you have caught something early enough to be treatable!!!! LOL
